Mike Dunleavy celebrates buzzer-beating half-court heave… that leaves Bulls down one

Dec 17, 2013, 12:46 AM EDT

There’s an axiom that players should play as hard as they can until the buzzer sounds then look up at the scoreboard to see whether they won. To Mike Dunleavy’s credit, he did that Monday night against the Magic.

And that, kids, is why it is so important to hit your free throws!

There was a thread the other day asking about suggestions to change the game. I’ve long thought that it’d be interesting if a half-court shot were four points, from inside the opposition’s three-point line could be five, inside the restricted area six. In this scenario his shot would’ve tied it–but somebody would’ve guarded him as well. Also, if this were so, it would decrease the absolute need to foul at the end of games.

Yeah and if you do it with your eyes closed it’s worth 7.

You could double down and get 8 points if you make a hook shot from half court like Meadowlark Lemon of the Globetrotters used to make one of at most every game. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

I see you are getting knocked for that, but I’ve always thought that anything past half court should be worth four points.

Had I just said that, I’d’ve gotten a more balanced response, probably.
