UPDATE 5:37 pm: Kobe Bryant will make his return on Sunday night — he made the announcement in a Facebook video. Apparently he owns some FB stock.

3:22 pm: The Lakers are in Sacramento tonight. Kobe Bryant will be at his home in Newport Beach, trying to get his daughters to turn off the “Muppets Christmas Carroll” so he can watch the game.

But Sunday night he could be back in the game.

The Lakers play the Raptors Sunday at Staples Center. The call is Kobe’s — he was scheduled to go through another workout at the Lakers practice facility Friday — but at shootaround up in Sacramento Mike D’Antoni said this, reports Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.

Announcement: Pro Basketball Talk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $20,000 Fantasy Basketball league for Friday night’s games. It’s $10 to join and first prize is $3,000. Starts at 7pm ET on Friday. Here’s the FanDuel link.

Kobe is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon — the Lakers need his offense but it will be interesting to see what Kobe they get. Nobody is quite the same after an Achilles injury, Chauncey Billups talked about not getting the same explosiveness back, but once he adjusts Kobe certainly brings an attacking mentality to a lagging offense.

We may see what it looks like Sunday night.

Has anyone seen Elton Brands calfs? No. Well take a look up close and it’s easy to see his right calf is about twice the size of that surgically repaired Achilles left calf. “Popeye” calf.

I’m gonna throw this one out there, when Kobe comes back perhaps his nickname should change from the “black mamba” to “Popeye mamba”. Just a thought.

I think kobe is a risk playing with the lakers front court. If you see the lakers now, their all participating and taking up shots. If kobe was on the baseline, open for a shot, xavier or who ever will get nerves shooting the ball, so they will automatically give the ball to kobe. And thats not good. But the good thing about kobe coming back is he could add an extra control on the court. like a coach playing with the starting 5. But like a said, if the players now keep playing the way they r with kobe coming on, wow. But if they get nerves and hesitate shooting or driving cause of kobe on the court, then thats a negative. I am a laker fan. Been one for 4 years now. Go lakers. And blazers :). i live in portland sooo ya :) and born :) mvp alrdridge :)

If Kobe comes back Sunday he is going to light the Raps up for 50 like he hasn’t been gone at all.

“Nobody is quite the same after an Achilles injury” True but Kobe will want to prove that statement does not apply to him…and it probably won’t.
