Kobe Bryant returning Sunday against Raptors

Dec 6, 2013, 5:23 PM EDT

Kobe Bryant’s jersey has faced snow, rain and wind. Yet, it’s endured.

That’s the lesson I took from the above video, which Kobe posted to Facebook today.

Oh, and that Kobe will return Sunday against the Raptors. I guess he’s been through a lot, too.

Sunday will mark just 240 days since he tore his Achilles, making this turnaround remarkably quick rehabilitation for a player his age. It’s fair to question how good Kobe will be upon his return, but you can’t doubt his resolve.

Kobe’s place as a member of the NBA’s all-time greats is without question. But where he ranks within that pantheon is still up to debate. These final years of Kobe’s career could make the difference of a spot or few in the all-time rankings. That definitely means something to Kobe, who could have retired a huge success rather than fight his way back.

As the video said, “THE LEGEND CONTINUES,” and we can again enjoy watching it unfold Sunday.

The Lakers are .500 without Kobe. The Lakers can make some noise with him.

12th place in the West? 25th best player in the league? Hah!

Or as Bart Scott said….. “CAN’T WAIT”!!!!!

I posted this earlier but don’t see it so here goes again.

If anyone has seen Elton Brands right calf versus his left you will notice the surgically repaired one from his Achilles tear (left) is about half the size of his right. Hence a “Popeye” calf.

I’m proposing that Kobe change his nickname from the “Black Mamba” to “Popeye Mamba”. GET IT?

When anti says its bad, you can be assured: it’s bad.

    • psung26 - Dec 6, 2013 at 8:47 PM

      Jerdogthompson, your proposal sucks.

    • asimonetti88 - Dec 7, 2013 at 4:23 PM

Elton Brand and Kobe Bryant are two different people.

  8. jerdogthompson - Dec 6, 2013 at 8:32 PM

I can’t help that Laker homers don’t get the humor in that one. The facts are the facts, Elton Brand has a Popeye calf. So I would fully expect the same for Kobe. Hence the new nickname.

    • fatcamper - Dec 6, 2013 at 8:43 PM

From a Laker-hater, let it go man.

    • JHathwell - Dec 6, 2013 at 10:50 PM

Don’t expect the mouth-breathers around here to get your high concept humor, brother.

      I think it’s brilliant.

Whoooooosh. Here’s one big thumb up.

  9. lakerade - Dec 6, 2013 at 9:31 PM

    Fitting it’s against the 81ers.

He’s gonna drop 82 for good measure!

Those German doctors are quite impressive. They must’ve attached a Laker fan or two behind him ala human centipede.

What needs to be recognized by all, is the fact that the amount and quality of rehab plays a significant factor in how and how quickly a player returns. Some people choose to do the bare minimum rehab work prescribed by doctors(Andrew Bynum) and spend their down time as if they are on vacation. Others do what is prescribed and more treating it as part of their job, not as a break from their job.
