Kobe Bryant sounds close to return, will not offer specific date

We know Kobe Bryant will not play Friday against Sacramento — he said as much and he’s not even traveling with the team to beautiful central California.

So what about Sunday in Staples Center against the Raptors? Maybe.

That’s as good as it’s going to get right now. Kobe spoke with reporters after his third consecutive day of practice and had these things to say about his return, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN and Mike Trudell of Lakers.com.

Kobe has no reason to be specific. He knows his body.

He’s also not patient — I’d bet you will see him in the two home games the Lakers have coming up.

Like I said yesterday, don’t be surprised if you don’t see him out there Sunday. He’s obviously not comfortable yet and he probably won’t be for some time – and he’ll be tentative in games when he does come back.

But this is all normal and expected after coming off such a serious injury. Lakers fans should be realistic and not delude themselves like Bulls fans did with Rose. These guys are only human.

Jesus. Get a new hobby, dude.

For those who were criticizing Rose for not manning up….look at Kobe. That’s not to criticize Kobe, but just saying players should take their time in getting back to 100%.

    Redb.:

No comparison. Kobe’s ahead of schedule, while DRose was months behind schedule and teased everybody by showing he could play and help his team, when he had no intention of doing either until this season. If you’re healthy enough to help your team without a substantially increased risk of injury, then do it. If you can’t, then just say so and sit down until you can. It’s not that hard or deep.

Anyone see Elton Brands calf muscles the other night against the Clippers? No?

Talk about “Popeye”, his right calf is about twice the size of his “Achilles torn” left calf.

Perhaps we can nickname Kobe the “Popeye Mamba”? Just throwing it out there for consideration.
