Still-injured Rajon Rondo beats MarShon Brooks in race

Nov 26, 2013, 2:00 PM EDT

Rajon Rondo is fast.

No, I don’t mean that in a “Rondo is fast when healthy” sense. He’s flat-out fast at this very moment (hat tip: Scott Rafferty of Hardwood Paroxysm):

Announcement: Pro Basketball Talk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $85,000 Fantasy Basketball league for Wednesday night’s games. It’s $25 to join and first prize is $9,000. Starts at 7pm ET on Wednesday. Here’s the FanDuel link.

Rondo should be back next month from his ACL injury, but it looks like he could play right now if necessary. For the tanking Celtics, though, it’s not necessary, so we’re still limited to watching Rondo win races rather than basketball games.

SportsVu predicted the outcome of this footduel long ago. In standing start pregame footraces to half-court, SportsVu found that Rajon Rondo traveled at an average speed of 21.3 MPH. Conversely, Marshon Brooks traveled at a pedestrian 19.9 MPH.

The Celtics are tanking??? Are you kidding me??? They are 6-10, one half game out of a playoff spot. They are playing hard and will also get Rondo back at some point. The Celts could get worse and make 90% of the fan base happy, but it appears like a pick in the 8 to 14 range appears more likely. No man’s land.

I agree. Watch ’em every night. They aren’t tanking, they are just inconsistent.

It wouldn’t make me happy. Something just doesn’t feel right about tanking, then I watch the Bobcats and see how wrong tanking can go.
