Dwight Howard gets technical for tossing ball at heckler (VIDEO)

Nov 21, 2013, 11:01 AM EDT

Oh Dwight, you should know better.

Dwight Howard was frustrated by late in the fourth quarter Wednesday night. His team had squandered most of the 18 point third quarter lead it had (the Rockets would eventually blow all of it and lose), Dirk Nowitzki was pretty much scoring at will, and some Mavericks fans had been letting Howard have it all game.

So after one play where Jose Calderon made the smart play and fouled Howard rather than let him dunk, the ball ended up in Howard’s hands and he tosses it into the crowd at one of his hecklers. He didn’t throw it with anger, this wasn’t going to hurt anyone, it was a gentle toss, but it was a pretty stupid move nonetheless. Howard instantly picked up a technical for it.

He’s likely also going to pick up a fine from the league. The suits in Manhattan get very touchy on the subject of players reacting negatively to fans who paid big money to be in those court side seats. You pay the money, you can say pretty much whatever you want (even stuff that crosses the line of decency) and the players know that’s the deal. They can’t get baited. Howard bit. He chose… poorly.

He was mad cause the fan was calling him a princess and making fun of him for picking Houston over Dallas

I think hecklers should be tossed. Why would anybody want to sit next to some fool screaming the whole game, like that clown Robin Ficker at Wizards games?

Lol I think they make exceptions if it’s against the away team. Don’t quote me on that though

Focus on the game and not the fans. Thats part of the reason your team lost the lead. In order to win you eventually have to start dominating 4th quarters. So many games he disappears in the 4th quarter. Never saw such a passive superstar, who can’t control his feelings and emotions. Do you still need more help Howard to win???

Man looking at the final score it seems the rockets have zero interest in playing defense. No stops no rings.

Hopefully dWights having fun because that’s all that truely matters to him. Thanks Daryl for taking this clown away LA.

Immaturity. If they won the game maybe ill let it slide.. Maybe. Every point especially at the end of the game is so important. A technical foul in an opponents arena can rile up fans.. Swing momentum. I’m so glad he’s out of LA. I’d rather lose than watch someone so immature

What a profound statement. No one knew technical fouls late in close games can “swing momentum.”

I’m really impressed with the maturity that Dwight showed last night. Gently tossing the ball at a heckler and getting a technical in the final few moments of a close game is a whole a lot more mature than being ejected on purpose from a playoff blowout, right?

I’ve criticized Howard at least as much as anyone else, and flipping the ball at a fan is stupid, but at least he wasn’t smiling like he didn’t give a damn. That’s got to be an encouraging improvement at this point.

And since he isn’t doing so well on his new team, how stupid is that fan if he really was bagging on Howard for picking Houston over Dallas? Has he not been paying attention to the needless drama that follows Howard closer than his shadow?

Little by little, the truth about Dwight Howard is coming to the surface.

    That fan is great.

Glad he swatted the ball away instead of catching it.

    Let the anger flow…

You mean that all that stuff about Dwight being immature is true?

The most physically gifted player in NBA history with the mentality of a ten year old.
