Memphis’ Tony Allen suspended one game for kick to Chris Paul’s face

Nov 19, 2013, 5:20 PM EDT

Tony Allen said as much and I believe him — I don’t think he intentionally tried to kick Chris Paul in the face. I think he got badly burned leapt to cut off a pass that wasn’t coming, realized he was beat and tried to kick the ball to stop the play or foul Paul. But not in a malicious, boot-to-the-face kind of way.

Still, a kick to the face is a kick to the face, so on Tuesday the league suspended Allen for one game for the incident.

Allen will sit out Wednesday night when the Grizzlies take on the Warriors. Stephen Curry will sit out that game for Golden State due to a concussion.

I’ll tell why Barnes didn’t step in.?? Cuz Tony Allen would have FOLDED Barnes like a Dinner Napkin!!! Barnes is a fake tough guy and Tony Allen is from the street’s of Chicago. Ask O.J. Mayo how that worked out for him…..LLS!!!

I don’t know – players never intend to hit anyone upside the head but they always do. Allen very well could’ve been trying to block a pass with his foot, but he probably didn’t mind if, in lieu of that, he “accidentally” caught Paul in the face.

Same thing with Mario Chalmers and his elbow to Dirk’s grill – he was just trying to break free from a tangle! IF, in the process of breaking free from a tangle, he happens to catch someone like Dirk Nowitzki in the mouth with his elbow… well, he can’t help that! It was just an accident! -_____-

Same thing with MWP’s People’s Elbow. He was just celebrating with excitement! He didn’t know an opposing player was right next to him. 😉

Agreed that the kick was accidental, but TA sorry? That’s just hilarious.

This will be a bigger deal if cp3 gets this kind of treatment in a playoff series. Otherwise, good teams can still overcome the theatrics as MEM was able to last night.
