Kobe Bryant practices, says he thinks he can return this month (no, not Friday)

Kobe Bryant practiced on Tuesday — a full five-on-five practice with the Lakers — the first of three days of practice for the Lakers. Then he spoke to the media after the game pumping up the mythology of his near invincibility.

But don’t expect him to play Friday night.

Kobe practiced and spoke to the media, here are the key quotes:

So what about Kobe playing Friday? D’Antoni called it “near impossible.”

The conventional wisdom is close to Thanksgiving for his return. The Lakers are at home Friday and Sunday, and then head out on the road for three games.

The reports from what the media did see is that Kobe was moving well and with him out there the practice was more energized and intense.

Still, practice is one thing and game speed is another (just ask Derrick Rose). Kobe will have an adjustment period when he returns, as will his Lakers teammates as they have to get used to playing with him again. The Lakers need to figure out what their new identity will be.

Kobe could save a litter of baby kittens from a burning house while curing cancer and ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and you’d still criticize him. Chill out man.

Heh. Well I criticize him in part because he’s much too self-absorbed to ever do any of those things.

Kobe would throw baby kittens in a blender if it meant a better shot at improving his legacy with ring #6.

If Kobe did all of the things that you mentioned and still shot 5 for 27 from the field, he WOULD still get criticized.

If anybody knows self-absorbed, anti, it would be you.

Kobe could save a litter of baby kittens from a burning house while curing cancer and ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Miami Heat would still have the WORST BANDWAGON fans in the NBA. Heh.

So basically he’s saying that he could play within a week and a half.

    Kobe isn’t Rose.

    @anti,
Your sweet LeBron abandoned his hometown and left the franchise in shambles to get his first ring and you’re okay with that…

This is more LA media frenzy than a real update. Everyone wants to be the first to post or tweet Kobe’s latest status, which hey, good for them. Kobe knows the business, knows how to build suspense in this industry of entertainment, and this is in line with that.

That being said, fantastic! Glad his recovery has gone so well, ultimately.

I think he’ll be back either the day before or after Thanksgiving.

He said repeatedly that once he is cleared to resume basketball activities (running, jumping, shooting, everything), he would need about 3 weeks to get ready. So count three weeks from today, and there’s your answer.

Therapist……split the words up, you’ll get it, needs to get back and lift this team to the 8 seed.
    Further setting this franchise back.
3 years and counting with no title. Kobes playing for one title only, the All time scoring title.
Lakers won’t be contending for awhile.
