Derrick Rose misses shootaround, “unlikely” to play Friday vs. Toronto

Derrick Rose tweaked his hamstring Monday night in the Bulls win over the Cavaliers (a game in which Rose was 8-of-21). It was described as “minor” — he was walking around, not limping — but hamstrings can be tricky things that need rest.

Rose sat out practice Wednesday, then Friday he sat out shootaround in Toronto.

Yes Rose wants to play Friday night but don’t expect Tom Thibodeau to let him go, says Aggrey Sam of

Look for Kirk Hinrich to get the start.

Announcement: Pro Basketball Talk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $20,000 Fantasy Basketball league for Friday night’s games. It’s just $10 to join and first prize is $3,000. Starts at 7pm ET. Here’s the link.

Better to error on the side of caution here. Hamstrings are things that can linger if not allowed to fully heal before they are tested again.

Which means I’d wonder if Rose is going to play Saturday night in a bigger game against the Pacers. It is possible Thibodeau rests Rose Friday and plays him in the big division showdown, but more likely Rose is on the bench for the weekend.

If Rose is out the key matchup tonight will be Boozer vs Johnson.

I got Raptors winning this game. Should be a close game.

Well, we all know what “maybe” means…. lol.

Rose should shut it down for a few months to be safe.

Thibs played him too many minutes–more than 10.

Rose has a 30.6% Usage Percentage but a 6.5 PER – that is easily dead last of anyone with at least a 25% Usage Percentage and significant minutes (39th of 39 – one behind Victor Oladipo). The Bulls are probably going to benefit from taking that off the floor.

Yeah, his numbers are gruesome this year.

      33.3% FG, 25.0% from 3PT, 2.8 RPG, 4.5 APG, 4.2 TOPG, and 14.7 points per game

The Rose hype-machine during preseason is a cautionary tale that “elite” performances in preseason mean nothing.

The question really arises: couldn’t he have sucked just as bad last year and at least gave them an extra man in the playoffs?
