No suspension for Matt Barnes, the league didn’t come down on him as hard as expected.

The Clippers Matt Barnes was fined $25,000 by the NBA for “failing to leave the court in a timely manner upon his ejection and using inappropriate language on his Twitter account during the game following his ejection,” the league announced Thursday.

Barnes was ejected from Thursday night’s Clippers win over the Thunder for shoving Serge Ibaka after Blake Griffin and Ibaka had a little carry over from a rebounding position battle. Barnes was coming to the defense of his teammate. Here’s the video.

After being tossed Barnes went to the locker room where he sent out a tweet in frustration wondering why he comes to the defense of his teammates, a tweet with a racial epithet and a swear word in it.

Barnes took to twitter to apologize for that rant. That must have helped with the league.

What’s the going rate for a twitter rant?

He got suspended for the exact same thing in 2011 with the Lakers for pushing Jason Terry after Terry and Steve Blake got into it. I guess he got off light this time.

Its also interesting that the NBA is fining players for using the N word.

I think they are just treating it like any other bad word.

Also, the crushing weight of irony involved in Barnes being fined for complaining about being fined.

Griffen is a power forward. Usually another player has to protect and stick up for smaller players. I wonder when Griffen will stop getting punked and fight his own battles. Right now Pau Gasol shows more toughness.

Nothing says NBA 2013 like a couple of shoves followed by a little twitter.

    NOTHING TO SEE HERE

    MOVE ON

  8. losanginsight - Nov 14, 2013 at 10:46 PM

Maybe one day Griffen will start defending himself and stop getting punked.

Fines are meaningless. Want to change NBA behavior? Suspensions and loss of game checks are the only way to reach these clowns. Watch their entourage turn on them when there is no more money to “make it rain” at the local strip club, or when the coke dealer has had enough with the “freebies” and starts Youtubing NBA players snorting free blow.
LOL at the player’s union when the SHTF. LOL!!!!!

The “N word” would be all but forgotten in American society today if African Americans would stop saying it. Wait, what race is Matt Barnes?
