Pacers’ Lance Stephenson given pathetic taunting technical (VIDEO)

Nov 12, 2013, 10:05 AM EDT

Really?

Lance Stephenson has really stepped up his game this season and Monday night put up a triple-double (13 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds) with Tony Allen covering him a chunk of the night. That Memphis chose to stick arguably the best perimeter defender in the NBA on him speaks to how well Stephenson is playing right now.

He also picked up this taunting technical… which is not even close to what should be called a taunting tech. That was a ball fake to me. Referee Josh Tiven was close to the play with a very quick trigger.

For comparison, remember Kevin Garnett did not get a technical for this:

That looked like a basketball play to me.

The only way you could possibly defend the official is if there was something said that had been warned about.

But it sure looked like Stephenson was just trying to get Allen to go for a steal to set up a move.

SMH…. That’s a basketball move, get the defender to react and then blow by him. NBA refs are too involved in games.

    I want more taunting. Please.

  4. valeb2012 - Nov 12, 2013 at 11:34 AM

If Tony Allen would’ve swiped that ball, it would’ve just been a knucklehead play by Lance and a solid defensive play by Allen. But because Allen was asleep at the wheel, it’s taunting.

That taunting foul was pretty ludicrous… but it makes no sense to compare it to a missed call on a taunt from five years ago. What KG did to Calderon isn’t relevant, unless you’re somehow arguing for that being the line on what is and isn’t a taunting technical.

No way he should have received a tech for that but don’t fool yourself by saying it was a basketball move

if i got a T for that weak sh** you would have to eject me from the game for i bit** slap that ref

Well I don’t know about anyone else but I know I’m impressed.

And also not great at HTML, apparently.

Every player should have to make one taunting move per game and risk turning the ball over while he’s at it. Spice it up a little.

KGs wasn’t called because it’s 10 times more hilarious.

For a good team they sure act like lowlifes.

  11. Jeff - Nov 12, 2013 at 3:37 PM

Yeah, it’s taunting because Allen is looking at Vogel. Maybe Vogel should have gotten the T. It looks like he’s chatting up Allen.

  12. wwttww - Nov 12, 2013 at 3:43 PM

    Jordan did that every game.

    Belleby123,

Please give examples of Pacers acting like lowlifes?

Holding the ball out in a defenders face makes Lance a lowlife?

    You’re really dumb.

Did you miss the overinflated egos shown in the recent comments of Paul George and Hibbert? These guys just need to shut up and play basketball. They are the Detroit Lions of the NBA.

If he didn’t already have such a bad reputation for arrogance and taunting it wouldn’t have been called, especially against Allen, one of the other most arrogant taunters in the league. (who had the most ridiculous flop in the NBA last year)
