Andray Blatche fined for ‘obscene gesture’ during Nets’ win over Heat (VIDEO)

Nov 2, 2013, 4:13 PM EST

Nets’ big man Andray Blatche was fined $15,000 by the NBA for “making an obscene gesture” late in his team’s win over the Heat on Friday.

The incident, seen near the end of the video clip above, occurred after Joe Johnson knocked down a big three-pointer with 2:47 to play that put Brooklyn up by 12.

Blatche wasn’t in the game at the time, but was seen from the bench (with the white towel draped around his shoulders) making the “big balls” reference that Sam Cassell made famous all those years ago.

The amount of the fine seems to be the going rate to punish this particular gesture. It’s what Marco Belinelli got during the playoffs last May, though his rendition of it was made on the court after personally hitting a big shot — ironically, against the Nets.

I believe Pedeo Cerrano made this gesture famous.

Wow, I had to replay the video a couple of times just to see what the problem was. If this game wasn’t nationally televised he would’ve gotten away with it.

That being said, what the hell NBA?

    Big dog, big nuts.

The NBA do their best to cut down any semblance of a heated rivalry, don’t they?

NBA: thinner skin than the NFL.

I have no problem with this fine. My kids watch games with me and I’m sure they also attend games

Then be a parent. Don’t make David stern do your job.

Have no problem with what he did. It should be a non-issue. I’m sure most people watching didn’t even notice it.

Oh and by the way, it’s wrong in the NFL too

NBA ain’t got no friggin’ balls.

Heat fans learned in the 2011 Finals that celebrating a 12 point lead with 2 minutes to go against a dangerous team is probably not the sagest thing to do. Blatche and Nets fans almost learned that lesson yesterday.

And yet they have no problem with the cheerleaders dancing in a seductive and sexual way rubbing their hands over their behinds, bending over and such a way that makes me cringe when watching games with my 7 year old daughter!

It was inevitable–the NBA has even started nailing guys on the bench with bad calls when they play against the Heat.
