DeMarcus Cousins was in beast mode, dropped 30 and 14 in opener (VIDEO)

Oct 31, 2013, 11:28 AM EDT

DeMarcus Cousins got his max extension, and while some questioned the move the questions were not about talent — he can be the best center in the league in five years (or less) if he wants it.

Wednesday night he showed that off against the Nuggets, dropping 30 points and pulling down 14 rebounds on them. Cousins did a good job moving without the ball, rolling and finding space. However, my favorite in his highlight package comes at the :30 second mark — watch how he just abuses JaVale McGee in the post. Too strong and too quick.

He helped lead the Kings to a 90-88 opening night win over Denver on a night they were celebrating the Kings still being in Sacramento.

Big Cuz, GETTING IT IN. If he keeps his head on str8, he will be one of the best BIG’S in the league. He has all the tools!! He just has to stop acting like a tool ( No pun intended )!!

    He’s got a nice touch.

After watching that, wow. That was very impressive. I hope this new staff has this kid’s head on right because he can be a huge rock for Sacramento to build around. He looked motivated and comfortable out there – scary for all of the teams in the West without a legit big man. Can’t wait to see him go up against Howard.

Yeah, not a King’s fan, but I’d love to see a locked in and focused Demarcus Cousins for the entire season.

We need more elite bigs in the NBA. It’s more fun that way.

    He’s a beast.

But he’s still an immature child. He tried to rip the ball out of Brian Shaw’s hands. Yes, Brian Shaw, a head coach. He also go up in McGee’s face after the game was over.

    Total beast. Total child.

      He’s 23. In reality a 23 year-old is still a kid.
But he still put all the men out there to shame.
I’ve always been a fan of the youngster, and I’m not bothered by the immaturity as long as he plays like this. He’s showing he deserves that max contract.

You’re not bothered until he implodes in a loss or loses the game due to a costly tech.

That move you so uneloquently refer to at the 30 second mark was a travel.

People are mentioning Howard as a match up… but there is one guy in this league that Cousins is afraid of…. Nikola Pekovic. Everyone mark on your calenders when the Kings play the Wolves… you will see what I am talking about. If you look close enough at the big tattoo on Pekovics arm one of the skulls mysteriously resembles Cousins.
