Derrick Rose is back, here’s his first bucket of the 2014 season (VIDEO)

The Heat and the Bulls tipped off the 2013-14 season on national television Tuesday, and while the night began with Miami re-living the way the 2013 season ended, Derrick Rose quickly shifted focus to what the upcoming season may bring.

After being ripped in the open floor by Mario Chalmers on his first possession, Rose quickly recovered, and showed the explosiveness and athleticism we missed all of last season.

Rose scored his first basket of the regular season with 10:22 remaining the first quarter, on a pretty drive to the rim which featured an acrobatic finish.

Rose clearly has some rust to shake off, but he has that explosive step whenever he wants it. Good sign for Bulls fans, halftime score notwithstanding.

Exactly. When you haven’t really played high level competitive basketball for over a year you’re going to have some rust. Any knowledgeable, logical person would know that. He’ll be just fine as the season goes along.

That was also his best play of the game.

Same old, same old for Rose against Miami. I wouldn’t necessarily blame his performance on rust, miamatt (above comment) – the Heat know how to wilt a Rose. Expect Derrick to look a lot better against a worse team.

That was the most badly fixed officiating I’ve yet seen in the NBA. Same old, same old is right.
