Pacers’ Granger now ruled out first three weeks of season

Sunday the Pacers were saying Danny Granger would be out for the season opening back-to-back they have.

What they meant to say is he would miss the first three weeks of the season with a calf strain. The team made the official announcement Monday and they called it a “precautionary measure.”

“The length of time is a precautionary measure as the team wants to ensure Granger is physically ready to play in light of missing all but five games last season due to his knee injury. The rehabilitation time is strictly related to the calf injury.”

Yes, because there is no way the calf strain could be tied to his compensating for knee concerns. Nope, that never happens. (It may or may not be the case here, just throwing out the possibility.)

Announcement: Pro Basketball Talk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $15,000 Fantasy Basketball league on October, 30th. It’s $10 to join and first prize is $2,000. Starts October 30th at 7pm ET. Here’s the link.

What we said yesterday applies here as well — whether two games or three weeks the Pacers are wise to be patient here.

They need to get him healthy to answer the questions that face Granger and the Pacers this season: Can Granger play with Paul George and Roy Hibbert? If the answer is yes, they just added an All-Star to the roster and become a bigger threat. If not Granger and his expiring contract will be on the trade block as the Pacers look for pieces that do fit.
