Deron Williams hits 3 three-pointers in a span of 67 seconds in his preseason debut (VIDEO)

Oct 26, 2013, 3:30 PM EDT

It wasn’t that long ago that Deron Williams was considered as questionable for the Nets’ season opener, but after seeing him get his first action of the preseason on Friday, it would now be a surprise if he wasn’t in the starting lineup when Brooklyn visits Cleveland to begin the regular season on Wednesday.

Williams played just 10 minutes, but looked quick, agile, and confident in looking for his shot. He was able to finish 4-of-5 from the field for 11 points in that short time, including knocking down three three-pointers in a span of 67 seconds.

I kno ppl wont agree., but D-will is the best point guard in the league

DWill is the best PG, when he is completely healthy tho.

Chris Paul is undoubtedly the best in the game. I can go into details and list his stats and efficiency but that’s too easy.

He just scored 40 in a preseason game and takes over when he needs to. He’s a pass first point guard and incredibly efficient – look at his percentages and his turnovers in his career. He let’s the game come to him and never forces the issue. Please don’t say such blasphemous things about the great CP3.

…He was outdueled by Nate Robinson (playing on a veteran’s minimum deal) in the playoffs last year.

thats an incorrect assessment because Nate Robinson only had 3 good games out of the 7 (look it up if you dont believe me). DWill played well all 7 games and was either guarded by Hinrich or 6’7 Jimmy Butler for nearly the entire series. Nate’s matchup was mostly against CJ Watson as they both guarded each other for majority of the series. Despite being down 3-1 Nets were able to rally to game 7 where they showed no heart or urgency and horrendous defense all at home.

He needs to return to his 2006-2010 form to be in that discussion. Great scorer who has nice passing ability when healthy though.

Deron Williams cant sacrifice his scoring too much if the Nets want to win the championship. A measley 16 ppg like Chris Paul is unacceptable because DWill is too good of a scorer. He should average 20+ ppg if Nets want to win the championship.

    • antistratfordian - Oct 26, 2013 at 5:32 PM

The Nets would suffer if D.Will averages 20+ and also his 8-9 assists. They would be relying too much on one player on a team with that much talent. Their offense should not be run through any one player.

And Williams is not so good of a scorer to the point that he should be taking the majority of an offenses shots. If a coach had his druthers the majority of the Nets shots would come from Lopez and Garnett.

The Nets would be better off if he did average something like 15 points – that would mean the ball is moving properly. The numbers for Pierce, KG, Lopez, Johnson should be better and the offense would be more difficult to stop.

The Nets will go as D-Will goes.

I wouldn’t say that about a team with Paul pierce on it, if d-will cant perform he can pick up the pieces, even if he is an old fart….

He might have something to do with it too…
