Josh Smith rattles home game winning three for Pistons (VIDEO)

Oct 25, 2013, 8:00 AM EDT

If you’re playing the odds, letting Josh Smith take the game winner from three is a smart play — he is a career 28.3 percent from beyond the arc.

What the Timberwolves didn’t know is last season Josh Smith shot a solid 36.5 percent from three from the right side above the break — which is where he launched from Thursday with the game on the line. There were 3.6 seconds remaining and Detroit down two when Kyle Singler inbounded the ball to Smith, who some space a foot behind the arc and never hesitated going up for the three over Derrick Williams.

The shot hit the front of the rim, bounced high, then fell through the net just as time expired. Just like Mo Cheeks drew it up.

Smith finished with 20 points (but needed 17 shots to get there) and Greg Monroe pitched in 17 points. Kevin Love was Mr. Double with 19 points and 10 boards in the losing effort.

Did you interview the timberwolves coaching staff in order to determine that they were unaware of Josh Smith’s shooting percentage beyond the arc?

He shouldn’t be allowed to shoot from 3… They’ll be sorry.

The Hawks really cracked down on him for one season. In the 09/10 season, he ONLY took seven 3 pt shots all season. He shot .505% from the field that season, his best and only season of his career above .50%

Last yr he took 201 3 pt shots and only made .303%.

His FG% last yr was only .465%

He is a career .283% 3 pt shooter.

Agreed and if JSmoov thinks this will validate his long range shot, it’s probably one of the worst things that could have happened to the Pistons,

I loved when the crowd at Hawks games would groan a collective NOOOO when he started to take a jumpshot.
