Blake Griffin sidelined with bone bruise to his left knee

Los Angeles Clippers Jordan, Griffin, and Billups watch their team lose to Memphis Grizzlies during Game 5 of their NBA Western Conference Quarterfinals basketball playoff series in Los Angeles Reuters

The Clippers have high aspirations this season, thanks to bolstering their star lineup with some key offseason acquisitions, as well as landing a tenured and well-respected, defensive-minded head coach with a championship on his resume.

But they’ll only get as far as the team’s collective health will take them, and early in the preseason, there are a few guys who are dealing with some minor injuries.

Matt Barnes (calf) and J.J. Redick (thigh) missed Wednesday’s scrimmage and Thursday’s practice with what are believed to be short-term ailments.

Blake Griffin participated in Wednesday’s event, but suffered a bone bruise to his left knee that kept him out of the following day’s practice.

From Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles:

An MRI on Grffin’s knee showed no structural damage, and coach Doc Rivers said there’s no timetable for his return.

“It’s nothing bad,” Rivers said. “But he tweaked it.”

Griffin was injured on the final play of the scrimmage when he attempted a dunk over Lou Amundson.

It’s likely (and hopefully) just a small setback, but the Clippers don’t just need a healthy version of Griffin — they’ll need a more developed one if they are to reach new heights this season.
