Knicks’ Woodson likes combo of ‘Melo, Bargnani and Chandler

How about this Knicks frontcourt: Carmelo Anthony, Andrea Bargnani and Tyson Chandler?

My first thought is it moves Anthony to the three when he performs better at the four, plus that puts a world of defensive pressure on Chandler. However this is why the preseason exists, run this lineup out there and see how it looks, how they interact.

Knicks coach Mike Woodson has and he likes what he sees, he told ESPNNewYork.com.

“It’s looking good,” Woodson said on Sunday. “I don’t know who’s going to start yet. But I like the makeup of Andrea and Melo on the floor at the same time with Tyson [Chandler]. In the scrimmage we worked that combination. It wasn’t bad.”

“Me and ‘B’ had a great week, just playing together, spacing it out on the court, me trying to learn from him, him trying to learn from me, trying to see what spots he likes out there on the basketball court,” Anthony said. “For the most part, he’s actually a smart player; he can play off people.”

I’d be surprised if Bargnani starts, the lineup with Metta World Peace at the three and Anthony at the four makes more sense. But if Bargnani is hitting his outside shot — remember he shot 30.9 percent from three last season and was worse the season before that — you can see the potential for spacing that could help open things up for Anthony. How about a 3/5 pick-and-roll with Anthony and Chandler, while Bargnani spaces the defense out in the corner?

It’s a matter of matchups because you can hide a defender on Barnani and pay more attention to Anthony. It’s pretty clear I’m not a fan of what Bargnani brings to New York because I’ve watched him in Toronto — he might give the Knicks some Steve Novak level of production (he his some shots but can’t defend or rebound), however with the wild price tag. of $23.3 million the next two seasons.

But this is why we have preseason, run the lineup out there and see how it works.

Bargnani is not nicknamed “Il Mago” (“The Magician”), for nothing. He makes his team’s wins disappear.

Watch and see, Bargnani’s going to have a big bounce back season, IF he stays healthy. He’s in a good offense for what he brings to the table.

bounce back? That implies he had a good season before. I’m not sure what offensive system needs guys who can’t shoot, pass, or grab offensive boards.

maybe i don’t get the strategic concept and maybe playing small ball works to some extent.but AB,or STAT, should start we have a lot of legs to protect. an to be honest we need to know if Stoudemire is gonna be live or the same 40 games missed 19 played type. we are deep enough to play two strong rotations. i say should find out what the man got left

He’ll be the same 40 games missed 19 games played….

I don’t know about Melo being better at the 4. He rebounded at a higher rate and shot better as a SF. He does create more mismatches at the 4, but that hasn’t necessarily helped the Knicks all that much – it led directly to Melo taking more threes, instead of beating his bigger/slower defender off the dribble and getting to the rack. His FG% was meh when at PF he should be shooting a career high (at least 50%) – now THAT would’ve really helped the Knicks.

And I would not start MWP if I didn’t have to.

in a perfect world that would be great beno smith peace stoudimire second team

What do you think he was going to say? I have a ball hog who doesn’t play defense and now they’ve added another soft shooting 7 footer to my roster?

Woodson Is Going To Be Fired At Seasons End.
5 Teams Passed On Woody For A Reason Before He Became An Asst. On The Knicks.

“Its not bad” Really? That’s his reasoning for his lineup?
Woodson is overrated and these knicks will get knocked out in the 2nd round by the Pacers or heat
