Nets’ Deron Williams sprains ankle, should be ready for camp

Deron Williams is moving around in a walking boot, and that has to put a little fear in the heart of Brooklyn Nets fans who know that for all the moves made this offseason to bring in veteran stars, D-Will is what makes this team go.

Fortunately, it’s not that serious.

Williams suffered a sprained ankle and bone bruise to his right ankle while working out in Utah, reports the Associated Press.

Williams is expected to be ready to go Oct. 1 when the Nets open training camp at Duke University, according to the team.

The Nets need to bring Williams along slowly — he has been slowed the last couple seasons by nagging injuries including bone spurs in his ankles. Last February he had to get cortisone shots in his ankles, but it worked. Last season before the All-Star Game averaged 16.7 points a game on 41.3 percent shooting, 34.7 percent from three. After the All-Star Game he averaged 22.9 points a game on 48.1 percent shooting and most of his shots were coming from three, where he hit 42 percent.

If the Nets are going to contend they need the healthy Williams from the second half of the season. So be patient.
