Report: Warriors to add Lindsey Hunter as assistant coach

Lindsey Hunter’s stay in Phoenix last season didn’t exactly go as planned. He was brought in as a player development guy and was supposed to help Kendall Marshall, but there was not much in terms of players developing. Then when Phoenix cleaned house and Alvin Gentry was pushed out Hunter became the head coach… and that didn’t go much better. It was a young, immature locker room and Hunter was not in control of it.

Hopefully things go better for him in the Bay Area, because that’s where he is headed as an assistant coach, reports Ric Bucher at CSNBayArea.com.

Golden State has Mark Jackson at the top but they lost lead assistant Mike Malone (now the head guy in Sacramento). Hunter will be part of a staff that includes Pete Myers, Darren Erman, Brian Scalabrine and Jerry DeGregorio.

There are high expectations in Golden State this season after a trip to the second round of the playoffs last year — and that translates into pressure on the coaching staff. Golden State has worked hard to turn its culture around, now Jackson, Hunter and the rest of them need to find a way to get more out of this roster.

With this addition, the Warriors would have a great interesting coaching staff.

Hunter may have struggled last year with the Sun’s, but he is walking into a good situation by joining the Warriors. Warriors are a franchise that’s going places, not three years from now, we’re talking right now. This team can shoot the lights out of the ball, and they play “D” – really good “D”, and they got the pieces now to bang with anybody, like a healthy Bogut, along with newcomers Speights, and O’Neal. Personally, with the new guys they have added, I think they can beat anybody on any night – they are now top tier team, you are not going to see this team experience many losing streaks, they have too many weapons. Hunter is making a very nice job change, let me tell you. The season can’t get started fast enough, I think.
