After 9 years, Pau Gasol finally shaved his beard… he lost a bet

Sep 13, 2013, 7:59 AM EDT

Pau Gasol is one of the smarter NBA players out there — he has been inside the operating room at a children’s hospital at the invite of doctors, he goes to the opera, and I have had a conversation with him about author José Saramago. This summer he visited Syrian refugees for UNICEF.

He and his brother Marc Gasol also have a charity together, the Gasol Foundation, and this summer the brothers made a bet: Pau and Marc each had a team of children they were trying to get to be active and healthy, it was called The Healthy Competition. The children were given Nike Fuel Bands and the coach whose team burned the most fuel won and the other had to shave his beard. Marc’s team in Memphis just edged out Pau’s L.A. team.

So for the first time since 2004 (when he was with the Grizzlies), Pau had to shave his beard.

There must have been some new civilization in that beard.
But seriously? 9 year old beard? Have a hard time believing that.

Am I missing something in this post? What’s to believe? No, the hair itself is not nine years old, unless it was never trimmed. But having a beard for nine years is hardly groundbreaking. Bet those guys in ZZTop have beards older than that. Or were you trying to make a pun out of a nine-year-old having a beard?

    Looked like a Muslim.

      Mis-identification, generalization, racism. A triple-stupid. Good work.

    Is that Omer Asik?

That is one unattractive man. :(

Sounds like a pretty tame bet to me. I did much worse for losing bets in college.

For me it was the military. Please don’t share.

@Anoesis Have I ever told you that you have one of the greatest screennames ever? I love that word. It’s almost ironic using it because you have to be somewhat intelligent to be familiar with it yet the definition is basically a mind free of content.

Meh. I had a thicker beard in 6th grade.

    • Anoesis - Sep 13, 2013 at 11:29 AM

That happens when you have to repeat several times.

Man, you’re on fire today! haha

That bet should have included his hair too! Pau will grow that beard back by 5pm PST anyways.

Nah, Brian Wilson showed up on the Dodgers. That thing on his face puts all other attempts at facial hair to shame. Beach Boys name, ZZTop beard, but probably listens to The Offspring.

I mean you can understand why he is so insecure. He is one ugly SOB
