Harrison Barnes is cool with coming off Warriors’ bench

Harrison Barnes started every game as a rookie for the Golden State Warriors last season. More importantly, he was on the court when the Warriors were finishing tight games last season. He found his footing and by the playoffs was a key contributor (16.1 points a game in the postseason) to a team that finally make the playoffs and then the second round.

Then this summer, the Warriors went out and got All-Star Andre Iguodala, who plays Barnes’ position on the wing.

Which likely means Barnes will be thrust into a sixth man role this season. And he’s good with that he told the Bay Area News Group.

“Winning the game matters more to me,” Barnes said….

“I can imagine much worse problems,” Barnes said. “I feel confident about this team and where we can go. Regardless if I’m starting or coming off the bench, I think we have a chance to make a serious playoff push.”

You have to love that attitude from a second year guy. Young players are often still trying to get theirs in the league — what they see as their points, then their money when contracts come up — but Barnes is talking big picture.

And he’s right, these Warriors have potential to do some damage in the playoffs. They need to come together, they need Andrew Bogut (and Stephen Curry) to stay healthy. But this is one potentially dangerous team this year.

Klay Thompson is nothing more than a catch and shoot player. Harrison Barnes can post up, Drive and shoot. Barnes has way more potential. You guys were obviously not watching the playoffs

Great attitude for a young guy to have.

I’d also add that if Barnes is asked to be the primary scorer on the bench, his numbers might actually be better as a bench player than as a starter who would be competing for shots with Currry, Thompson, Lee, and Iguodala all on the floor.

Players like Manu Ginobili, James Harden, etc. prove that even “bench” players can get starter’s money as free agents if their role off the bench is large enough.

He better start attacking that basket when he comes in the game instead of passing up shots as if he is scared to shoot. They better give my boy Bazemore some burn this year too. That kid is a smothering defender and can shoot and attack.

Barnes is and will be the better player, his game is more complete. IMO Clay’s better suited to come off the bench. He’s a shooter, and sixth men normally come in to add offense and I think that’s more Clay’s game. He can d up, but I think his d is slightly overrated. Don’t get me wrong, I like Clays game, when he’s on he can shoot it with the best of them, but Barnes to do what he did in the playoffs at his age shows me he’s gonna be an all-star real soon.

lmao. klay thompson is no sixth man. he is a certified starter . let’s see how their careers play out. i already stated my claim.

i find it funny you try to box him in as a shooter. thats hat they tried to do for curry. he is much more dynamic than that. he’ll give defenses headaches until he retires.

You are exactly right Knowledge, Klay is a energy guy, quick points off the bench. Thats what he is. I’ve never seen a starter on a playoff team blow that many lay ups and easy plays. His mind is not strong enough. his game is not either.
Barnes is the guy, getting Iggy was a dope move but I think Barnes will be the better version of Iggy in the long run. Maybe a little worse on defense.

nba scouts would truly laugh at your assessment of klay thompson.

    What a great attitude

You got it all wrong, Klay should be the bench guy. Inasmuch as Barnes has clearly says he doesn’t care, he is more valuable starting. What you are missing in this whole article, is the fact that Harrison Barnes is way better than last year’s playoffs. What he has added to his game, Jackson won’t help himself but to start him. Harrison’s game is going to speak for himself. San Antonio exposed Klay’s weaknesses by shutting him down from the perimeter, because he is not a threat inside. Harrison Barnes is an all around player and more athletic and versatile. Watchout! Barnes is going to surprise all of you

    Barnes has a great attitude!

Why is thier a debate on whether or not he is better than Thompson?
