LeBron enters dunk contest… only in new Nike ad

Aug 21, 2013, 1:12 PM EDT

We’re never going to see LeBron James in the All-Star weekend Dunk Contest. People will read into that whatever they want — he didn’t take part in an exhibition event — and it will say more about them then and their biases than it does LeBron.

But man, it would have been fun to see him do it.

This latest Nike ad ends with LeBron throwing down an impressive dunk in a mock Dunk Contest. Makes you wonder what might have been.

Hat tip to Lang at NBA.com’s All Ball.

Wake me when he actually stops being scared to lose . Maybe if the great king gets a police escort , he’ll actually go . Then all of his minions and sycophants can follow him with rose pedals….all hail the king….#whatajoke#

Wake me when the dunk contest is even worth his time…#areyouevenserious#

Do you have rose pedals on your bicycle BM?

Really??? Because of a dunk competition??? Like who cares

That dunk was actually garbage. All the pretty stuff he did before the dunk was good. Reminds me of the Blake Griffin dunk over the hood of a car. Simple dunk surrounded by fluff.

Those ‘Best of 2012-2013′ videos the NBA put out should have had at least one of LeBron’s pre-game dunks. Remember how that actually became a story… his pre-game dunk show? He pulled off some spectacular dunks, but I still doubt he has the creativity to win the dunk competition.

He wouldn’t have to personally have the creativity.. He has a huge creative branding team behind him that would most likely come up with that stuff.

Plus with the fans voting, he could do a lay-up and win the contest.

are you saying his fans go overboard for anything he does ?

  6. ausar02 - Aug 21, 2013 at 3:54 PM

I’ve seen him do more impressive dunks in game.

LBJ in the McDonalds national HS dunk contest was awesome when he was 17, let alone what he could do now. If you don’t think so you’re a nutt.

I guess Bronny wasn’t kidding when he said he doesn’t worry about what people say about him. Do you, Bron Bron.
