Kobe Bryant’s home for sale, comes with theater, shark tank

Aug 20, 2013, 5:45 PM EDT

Kobe's house

What is it with NBA players and shark tanks? Gilbert Arenas has one in his home.

So does Kobe Bryant — and you can own his house if you have a cool $8.6 million lying around, as reported by the Los Angeles Times (via The Big Lead).

There is an 850-square-foot gym, a hair salon, a paneled office/library with a shark tank, a theater, four bedrooms and seven bathrooms in the two-story house. The grounds include a swimming pool and spa, lawn, a fire pit and an outdoor kitchen.

Of course Kobe has an 850-square-foot gym in his house. It probably is the single biggest room in the house.

Apparently all the remodeling was done while Kobe owned the property. So you can tell all your friends that Kobe picked out the crown molding during your next cocktail party.

It seems a little odd that a home has four bedrooms and seven bathrooms, but as I don’t want to live down in a Newport Beach gated community I guess it doesn’t matter. If you care, here’s what the backyard looks like, as well as the formal living room.

    Goodbye Lakers?

    • asimonetti88 - Aug 20, 2013 at 6:57 PM

He owns several houses in Newport.

    • fanofevilempire - Aug 20, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Kurt, it’s about 10,000 square foot house you must have those bathrooms available
so you don’t pee ya pants.

    • ambitoos - Aug 20, 2013 at 9:57 PM

      Where you going?

    • ambitoos - Aug 20, 2013 at 9:58 PM

      Where are you going?

  2. saint1997 - Aug 20, 2013 at 6:04 PM

I know it sounds crazy, but 8.6 million would get you significantly less than this in Australia

    • badintent - Aug 21, 2013 at 2:12 AM

Down Under housing bubble about to blow up.Mining down, immigration issues up, economy down and the sh8t hitting the fan.And way too many sharks, poison snakes, spiders, etc.
But very sorry to hear about Chris Lane’s death . great guy, too young to die .RIP.

      • saint1997 - Aug 22, 2013 at 5:20 AM

Thanks for the sentiments about Chris. The rest is crap though. Snakes? Character building. Economy? Better than in the US. Immigration? Yeh we have stupid politicians, but who doesnt?

  3. legend30 - Aug 20, 2013 at 6:05 PM

Heard he wants a house closer to L.A. He had to take a helicopter to travel from Orange County to L.A.

    • legend30 - Aug 20, 2013 at 7:14 PM

That’s actually the reason he’s moving, I’m not making it up. Basically wants to live closer to the Staples Center.

      • badintent - Aug 21, 2013 at 2:15 AM

So he go slumming in the Hommie Hils or Beverly ? Decisions, decisions, Maybe just sell his mom’s home and call it a day. And his high school jockstrap.

      • jimeejohnson - Aug 21, 2013 at 10:05 PM

Intent seems bad, again. At least you’re consistent.

      • badintent - Aug 22, 2013 at 1:29 AM

Damn, you all can’ take a joke. Hommie =Holmby HIlls. And His mom did try to shake him down with an auction of his high school stuff when he didn’t want to spring for $500K for a new crib

    • jcmeyer10 - Aug 20, 2013 at 8:10 PM

He wants to ride his bike to games like Bron.

      • kb2408 - Aug 20, 2013 at 10:14 PM

If anything, Lebron is emulating Kobe. Everything Bron is doing now to improve, Kobe has already done.

      • jcmeyer10 - Aug 20, 2013 at 10:23 PM

When did Kobe ride his bike to the stadium?

      • asimonetti88 - Aug 20, 2013 at 11:10 PM

“When did Kobe ride his bike to the stadium?”

      • eventhorizon04 - Aug 20, 2013 at 11:49 PM

“When did Kobe ride his bike to the stadium?”

        Never.
But even when LeBron is doing something Kobe hasn’t done, he’s just copying Kobe, duh.

  4. asimonetti88 - Aug 20, 2013 at 7:01 PM

Interesting he is selling this property. Pelican Hill is the nicest of the communities they own homes in, at least in my opinion.

  5. mogogo1 - Aug 20, 2013 at 7:17 PM

The 4 bedroom 7 bathroom thing is pretty standard for ultra-fancy homes. The gym probably has its own bath, probably one for the pool, the theater…

  6. money2long - Aug 20, 2013 at 7:19 PM

not a surprise kobe has a gym in his home. what would be a surprise is if he has only one.

  7. jcmeyer10 - Aug 20, 2013 at 8:14 PM

I don’t know what I would do with that much space. The pool and kitchen are nice. I’m sure the gym is too but there are too many rooms that serve no purpose.

  8. gmsalpha - Aug 20, 2013 at 9:25 PM

At the end of his career as he is, I’m not sure why he cares about living closer to Staples Center. It’s not like he’s going to walk to work in 2 years, unless he’s in the front office. I like the backyard and pool area of the house, but the interior decor is very old lady. Definitely not very black mamba-like.

  9. trollaikman8 - Aug 20, 2013 at 9:40 PM

Did they shoot Behind the Candelabra in that living room?
    Hideous.

  10. dhragonn - Aug 20, 2013 at 10:00 PM

For making $20 plus for a long time, not including marketing dollars, this is a dump. Hope it’s a fun house. The shark tank however…that got me, well played. I could get Von millered and watch that sucker prey on fish for hours.

  11. redbearwoodall - Aug 20, 2013 at 11:28 PM

Ask Chris D’Amico how owning a shark tank worked out for him.

    • jcmeyer10 - Aug 21, 2013 at 10:50 AM

I wonder if Gilbert ever shot a hole in his?

  12. ken2016 - Aug 21, 2013 at 12:15 AM

    1 word “BALLIN”

  13. kappy32 - Aug 21, 2013 at 4:26 AM

It has a lawn? I’m sold.

  14. skinsfanwill - Aug 21, 2013 at 11:10 AM

For 8.6 million I better at least get a bedroom for every million. Who the flock pays 8.6 million for a 4 bedroom house? I wouldn’t give a damn if the house was on the moon and it included a waterslide back to earth. That house is not worth the money to me.

    • jimeejohnson - Aug 21, 2013 at 10:02 PM

Obviously you don’t understand the value of living on the American Riviera, also known as Coastal Southern California, and I do mean right on the coast.

  15. thenew013 - Aug 21, 2013 at 12:01 PM

That pool area is sick and i doubt anyone has ever sat on those couches.

  16. yuwannano - Aug 21, 2013 at 12:26 PM

    Nice pool!

  17. soundsofsuccess7 - Aug 21, 2013 at 6:50 PM

Surprisingly there are more extravagant houses in Newport Coast and surrounding beach neighborhoods. Props to Kobe for not going with the classic 10 bedrooms or anything ridiculous like that.

    • Kurt Helin - Aug 21, 2013 at 7:16 PM

He is leaving this one for one he and his wife have custom built. I’d be curious to see what that one has…. a 1,000 square foot gym?

  18. jimeejohnson - Aug 21, 2013 at 10:00 PM

Kurt: you don’t want to live in a gated community in Orange County, CA? You could get a huge SUV with a big ole push bar and just push the gate to the community open every time you enter or leave. Whadya mean, “no”? I live in the woods, and we have gates that we push open with our push bars! Only difference from Orange County is way less car washes, swimming pools, and yuppies, but not necessarily in that order.

    • Kurt Helin - Aug 22, 2013 at 8:07 PM

I’m a little more urban that that.

  19. taylorgang24 - Aug 21, 2013 at 11:40 PM

My moms house has 4 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms, the bathrooms are excessive to the extreme.

  20. badintent - Aug 22, 2013 at 1:26 AM

Kobe can grab a little 15,000 foot place in Palm Beach and take the helicopter to work in …..Miami

  21. noonelistensanyway - Aug 23, 2013 at 10:27 AM

Who cares what the thug does!!!
