Pacers’ Copeland well into rehab from knee surgery

It was just a simple scope job to clean out some debris in his knee. But since the Pacers just signed Chris Copeland to a two-year, $6.1 million deal to make him a key part of their much-improved bench, they have a right to worry.

They needn’t be.

Copeland was supposed to be out 6-8 weeks but just over two weeks after the surgery he is walking around and has started rehab, he told Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com.

Copeland’s quote to Scott Agness of Pacers.com summed it up well.

“It was more of a nuisance than an actual injury.”

The Pacers will bring Copeland, Lance Stephenson (headed to the bench because of Danny Granger’s return), C.J. Watson and Luis Scola off the bench. That’s a big upgrade and it will make a difference — last season the Pacers outscored they opponents by 11.2 when their starters were on the floor but struggled when they were off it.

Of course, the one caveat to this improved bench is health. So the fact Copeland is up and moving around is a good sign.
