Report: Clippers waiting on answer from Lamar Odom before extending offer to Antawn Jamison

Lamar Odom AP

Antawn Jamison met with new Clippers head coach Doc Rivers recently, and by all accounts there was a certain level of mutual interest.

But it appears now that Jamison will have to wait until another player decides if he’ll take what the Clippers are offering to pay to fill that roster spot for next season.

From Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times:

Clippers informed former Laker Antawn Jamison team waiting on answer from Lamar Odom as preferred option before Jamison, sources.

Clippers willing to offer Lamar Odom vet. mim. of $1.4 million. Odom would like more, but no team has offered LO anything more.

Odom’s preference is to stay in Los Angeles, but he’d undoubtedly like his next deal to be for more than one season, even if the veteran’s minimum part holds true. But as we’ve detailed here before, Odom isn’t likely to have a ton of choices.

From Jamison’s side, it’s never easy to hear that you’re a team’s second choice — especially if they’ve been stringing you along up until this point.

From Mark Spears of Yahoo! Sports:

Free agent F Antawn Jamison was led to believe he was signing with LAC before being told today they preferred Lamar Odom, Y! source said.

Ouch.

It’s a tough situation, although if the Clippers are able to come to terms with Odom, it isn’t like Jamison won’t have other options.

But it’s easy to see why Odom is the first choice here. When mentally engaged, he’s obviously the much more versatile player. As has been the case at varying times throughout his career, the only question will be whether he can sustain that focus over the entire course of the season.

Lamar Odom hasn’t shown much in the last two years. There is a very good chance that he is toast. Jamison is on the back end of his career, but is a good locker room guy who can still play a bit. I’d choose him 10/10 times based on what LO has shown of late.

They both suck. Thats why the lakeshow got rid of them. Lakers are always right

The Clippers are in critical need of a power forward who can spell Griffin with quality minutes . Lamar Odom is a nice guy , but not rugged enough to be Griffin’s back-up . Jamison is basically a small forward who can score , but the Clippers have several quality players at that position .
The Clippers need to trade one of their quality guards for a quality backup defender power forward . They have several and after CP3 it doesn’t matter who goes , Willie Green would probably be the bait for somebody like Louis Admundsen .
I don’t think it’s time to panic because I’m sure before the season starts some team will waive a quality backup forward that the Clippers can pickup cheap .

Man I was hoping the lakers were going to pick him up. He’s too buy bsing with the paparazzi and all that mess.

The Candy Man is stuck between a rock and likely a wet and juicy Khardashion place. 1.4 Million in California would certainly be enough for yours truly. But the reality is, it’s about 800k after Jerry Browns taxes. With the lifestyle they are living, that won’t be enough to keep him married to the brand or Khloe for too much longer. He should have stayed a Mav and played basketball. He would have been estranged from Khloe, but better off financially. Short of him training with Hakeem and getting better, he’ll be out of the league and broke in less than 5!

Well, I’m not an Odom fan but I can’t understand why he isn’t jumping at this offer.

Sure he wants more money, but he and his agent aren’t dealing with reality so he hasn’t accepted this offer.

His life is in L.A. with his wife etc… Since he’s not received any other offers, can he earn more than $1.4 million in L.A. NOT playing basketball?

Hell, it would be funny if L.A. grew tired of waiting for him to accept and simply made an offer to Jamison.

Lamar has played well in the past and he’s been compensated for it. He’s not played close to well the past two seasons and it shows that he’s not clued into reality if he thinks he should be offered more money with his play from the past two seasons.

He’s at the end of his career, but if he buckles down and plays well this year, he’ll get resigned again and may extend his earning career in basketball but it all depends on this season.

If he plays poorly like he did in his past two seasons, he wont’ see another offer at three consecutive bad seasons while being a yr older.

The LAC should just move on. LO is a plague on his teams.

No, he isn’t. He actually gets along really well with his teammates.

The only reason the Clips want him is because of his defense and rebounding. His offensive game is gone, but his defense is still good.

Pretty sad when players want to play for the Clippers, but not the Lakers.

    Thanks Jimmie and D’Antoni.

This waste of talent needs to retire. He has the physical capabilities to be one of the best PF’s the game has ever seen. He doesn’t want to put the work in. A lazy bum. Shows up Fat as all hell every year and takes more than half a season to get back in shape. Storms in the GM’s office to be traded and then pouts all damn year because he was. Get this Reality show bum the FLOCK outta here. Carl Thomas (Emotional) dude!!!!!

Clippers need another Center or PF. All they got is Deandre? Shouldn’t have let go of Kenyon Martin.
