Dwyane Wade’s divorce legal tab could be $10 million

Dwyane Wade has just gone through one ugly, six-year divorce that included a nasty custody battle. Nobody really wins in a situation like that…

Except the lawyers.

The Miami Herald has the details on just how big the lawyers won.

Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade could end up paying $10 million in legal bills for his divorce. Two of the dozen or so lawyers in two states involved with Wade’s split from high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches tell Gossip Extra that the past few months in the six-year battle would undoubtedly make the meter reach that figure.

“We were at about $8 million last year,” said one lawyer who asked not to be named. “He’s paying more for lawyers than what he is paying his wife for the settlement.”

He’s paying his wife $5 million in the settlement.

Yes, Wade made $17.2 million in salary last season alone, that’s still $15 million in settlement and legal fees from the divorce. That is a lot of money, no matter who you are. Even a lawyer.

    Cheaper to keep her?

    • azarkhan - Aug 8, 2013 at 3:28 PM

      He traded up-

  2. biasedhomer - Aug 8, 2013 at 2:34 PM

Are they fighting over child custody?

I mean other than that, I don’t see how he is paying this much for lawyers.

    • hwatt - Aug 8, 2013 at 2:51 PM

      some math:
$10 million divided by 10 lawyers = $1million each. Divided by six years is $166,666 per year per lawyer for this case. And better bet whatever firm they’re with takes a nice cut off the top. Not a bad salary.

The real question I have is not the price since the numbers make sense but…. 10 lawyers for one case?! whew

      • asimonetti88 - Aug 8, 2013 at 5:46 PM

I believe he was also paying for her lawyers, so that may be part of the 10.

    • asimonetti88 - Aug 8, 2013 at 2:52 PM

Child custody was part of what they were fighting over.

That how divorce lawyers make their moolah – generating conflict in child custody.
When a Shared Parenting bill came up a few yrs. ago, I told my lawyer, who immediately shouted “THAT WILL PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS!”

Far too little for the wife (she should get substantially more) and far too much for the lawyers. Wade has seemed somewhat petty in dealings with his ex, showing a real lack of maturity.

    • mckaymatt - Aug 8, 2013 at 3:22 PM

Petty? I’m pretty sure I read that he has been paying for both sets of lawyers (hers and his) and the fact that he got custody of the children shows that she isn’t exactly all there…

From an outside perspective (which everyone here is giving) I don’t really think he has been petty at all. He has the kids the majority of the time and on top of that, most of this has been dragged on because of her.

    • miamatt - Aug 8, 2013 at 3:34 PM

How is $30,000 a month FOR LIFE, not to mention the $5 mil lump sum, mansion, and four cars she just got “far too little”? Not to mention Wade paid all her legal fees and supports the children. Sorry, but she will never have to lift a finger the rest of her life if she doesn’t want to. She is in the top 1% of American earners. And for what? Marrying a guy who happened to become a great pro athlete? I understand the law is what the law is, but it has never made sense to me that marrying a millionaire entitles you to be a millionaire for the rest of your life if things go south.

      • mogogo1 - Aug 8, 2013 at 4:43 PM

The sad thing is you can already predict she’s going to spend it all and be wanting still more. And while Wade has made a mint, plenty of other guys have blown threw all their dough, so the “for life” may only mean “until Dwyane’s been retired for a few years and used it all up.”

      @ katra

      That’s a joke, right??

    • muhangis - Aug 9, 2013 at 6:41 AM

      katra….. gosh I’ll put my $ on fact that you’re a girl

    • ryanrockzzz - Aug 9, 2013 at 7:37 AM

Probably because he was out earning all of the money, while she was just sitting around enjoying it. I would say 5 million to go out on your own and get a real job like everyone else should give her pleanty of wiggle room.

Have a guy from Detroit send her a visit.. $50k and you’ll save yourself a fortune. llol

  5. lew24 - Aug 8, 2013 at 3:32 PM

Why are divorces so expensive? Because they are worth it!

  6. ambitoos - Aug 8, 2013 at 3:41 PM

Friggen Lawyers are a bunch of thieves. No divorce should cost that much. Next time Wade get a Lawyer for a girlfriend.

  7. cantonbound13 - Aug 8, 2013 at 5:37 PM

    EX wife gets $5-10 million
    Attorneys/legal fees: $10 million
Dwhine Wade: Keeps over $100million & gets custody of kids?
    He made out very well.

About time the man wins in this situation! Dudes all over America get screwed royally every day and it’s not even close to fair. She’s still getting too much.

Another reason not to get married.

    • oregon59 - Aug 8, 2013 at 6:50 PM

and just as important …. keep your swimmers in their own pool!

  9. chazzmat - Aug 8, 2013 at 7:58 PM

I find it hard to feel sorry for any guy who makes a multi-million dollar pay check. They can read strategic playbooks, decipher complicated contracts, but cannot negotiate a pre-nup! My motto would be “if the pre-nup cant get signed, you need to step out of the line”.

Then again, I guess that why BK has every woman saying “put a ring on it” (so they can put a ring on that bank account). If these rich guys LIKE funding the lifestyle of their Ex (and their new man), we should LOVE it!

  10. daddycoco - Aug 8, 2013 at 9:05 PM

make it work for the kids.

  11. jdmcmill - Aug 8, 2013 at 9:34 PM

far to little for the wife????? because she has a great jump shot? US divorce laws are way efffed up….speaking from experience.

  12. acdc84 - Aug 9, 2013 at 1:37 AM

I don’t give a crap about Wade and his $$ problems (expensive problems for super-wealthy people), and haven’t read any details or comments, but wasn’t he married to that movie-star actress? I’m sure there are nasty problems over millions of dollars, but why should we fans that make five figures per year shed an ounce of care or concern?

    • muhangis - Aug 9, 2013 at 6:52 AM

what?? what was the point of your comment, other than to mention that you make five figs per year.

……You are further proof, that rich ppl are not any smarter or better lol. Merely sound more conceited and selfish.

      • skinsfanwill - Aug 9, 2013 at 9:20 AM

Am I reading this right? Does 5 figs make you rich? Last I heard that was a decent to low income.

      • miamatt - Aug 9, 2013 at 11:34 AM

$10,000 a year is well below the poverty line and 5 figures…

  13. RRose - Aug 9, 2013 at 3:20 AM

It goes to show how attorney take advantage of clients.

  14. muhangis - Aug 9, 2013 at 6:46 AM

I’m sure at least someone will find this quite the hilarious:

prepare to hate this this unbelievable b!t¢h way more! Wade probably deserves to get punished just for marrying someone like this….
