Chris Gatling, who had an 11-year NBA career and was an All-Star in 1997, has plead guilty to charges of fraud and theft in relation to a house squatting situation in Arizona.

The Associated Press has the details.

Chris Gatling entered the guilty pleas to one count of theft and one count of forgery on Thursday in Maricopa County Superior Court….

Gatling was accused of breaking in the key box at the home and living there for about a year. Police say the homeowners lived in California but had left the power on at the Arizona home.

In previous reports Gatling got caught when he had pretended to rent the home out, getting a down payment from one potential renter, but another called the police.

Gatling was the No. 16 pick by Golden State in 1991 and over the course of his career earned $29.4 million in NBA salary, plus he played a couple seasons overseas. He played for the Warriors, Heat, Mavericks, Nets, Bucks, Magic, Nuggets and Cavaliers.

He was known for his energy. He was the only NBA player I can think of with a steel plate in his head, needed after a fall left him in a blood clot in his head that required surgery.

Gatling will be sentenced Oct. 4.

That steel plate saved him from having a hole in his head?

Met him and Sam Cassel at the Florida Mall when I was working at Mayors as a security guard. Now you would have thought that Cassel would have been the arrogant one ( NBA Star PG NBA Champion ) , but he was the coolest , even gave me his autograph. Gatling was the one who thought he was all that and a bag of chips. I think he is getting exactly what he deserves.
