Monday And-1 Links: Watching Cody Zeller go to work

Aug 5, 2013, 4:32 PM EDT

Here is our regular look around the NBA — links to stories worth reading and notes to check out (stuff that did not get its own post here at PBT) — done in bullet point form. Because bloggers love bullet points.

• Here is what Cody Zeller was doing right at Summer League.

• You hear a lot of people say “the Thunder should have kept James Harden and let Kendrick Perkins and/or Serge Ibaka go.” It’s just not that simple.

• Remember we told you former NBA player Craig Ehlo had been arrested on a domestic violence charges that included “felony burning” charges. He’s out of jail now but the details of his arrest are a little strange.

• Do you “sleep text?”

• While Ivan Johnson is drawing interest from the Knicks (which means a minimum deal) his agent is also looking at overseas options.

Mike James remains in negotiations with the Mavericks.

• Nate McMillan is excited to get going as part of the Pacers staff.

• Here is Hawks GM Danny Ferry singing the praises of DeMarre Carroll (not literally).

• Former Florida State star Michael Snaer has gotten an invite to the Brooklyn Nets camp. (That’s as far as he goes with that team this year, but it’s a good opportunity.)

• Darius Johnson-Odom is drawing interest from  Italian team Montepaschi Siena. He is a free agent right now.

Oh I get it! Because he’s white and whites are horrible at basketball. He’s simply being displayed to prove to whites that they still have a place in the game. How thoughtful!

        Sensitive tonight/morning?

Cody looks good. I know others will say it’s only the summer league and he’s not playing against anybody and that is true. But it’s better than playing terribly and looking bad, which he isn’t doing.

He might not be the next great thing but he far more athletic than people thought. He really opened eyes in the pre draft combine workout many months ago.

He is smart. He is hardworking. He is “coachable”. He hustles up and down the floor, he beat guards down the floor so many times in college let alone the other teams forwards and/or center.

He will contribute and and he will be the type of player that improves season to season. He will be very good. Hopefully the team is able to get others who will play hard and improve to so the team may change its fortunes.

I read a breakdown of the Thunder’s financial possibilities by Zach Lowe and it really is pretty simple. They could have amnestied Perkins, kept hard, spent about $8 million more per season and probably won 3 championships.

    @djveal
If 15 ppg and 10 rpg doesn’t get you excited about CZ then you are probably an idiot. Sorry for your misfortune. Keep working on your “Welcome to Walmart” line an I am sure you will find success.
