Report: Knicks in negotiations with Jannero Pargo

The Knicks have been looking for one more point guard to go with Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni. They had been trying to lure in Beno Udrih.

But it appears they are looking in another direction — toward Jannero Pargo. He bounced around the NBA last season but is now looking for a home.

This information according to friend of the blog Jared Zwerling, reporting via twitter.

My reaction… “meh.” For a minimum deal at the end of the bench, he’s fine. He’s been up and down, and mostly down, everywhere he went, but he can knock down threes and would fit it well in the locker room. If they can’t land Udrih and don’t want to role the dice on a Delonte West, then Pargo is a decent choice.

If the Knicks sign Pargo it would be a “meh” signing just like their entire off-season moves. The Knicks are trying to get as much with limited money. Guys don’t want to play for the Knicks or with Carmelo.

Stop Hating on Melo already..No wonder nobody wants to play for the knicks…The fans stink!!! No Support !!!

WHY? What does he even do?

  6. adamsjohn714 - Aug 2, 2013 at 7:05 AM

The Knicks are seriously floundering. Pargo has never been any good, and he’s old. Why not just sign some random rookie for a minimum deal and see if he pans out?

The Knicks can only add players for the veteran min. So if the Knicks cant get Udrih or hope that no one signs Mo Williams and he takes the vet min with them – then Pargo would be a nice fit. Negatively going crazy over this deal is a waste of energy Pargo is ok. It could be worse for the Knicks they could be going after Telfair and we know the Knicks history with Lincoln High School grads.

How on earth is Pargo close to ok at basketball? He’s a very poor shooter, poor rebounder, poor passer, below average at steals, and mediocre at everything else except TOs, which he’s good at not committing. Plus he’s old, and can’t seem to stay on the court. The last 4 seasons he’s played 671, 292, 102, and 113 minutes respectively, in 82 total games.

      • alexb1234 - Aug 2, 2013 at 3:02 PM

Dude, pargo is going to be the last guy on the bench and is hardly going to be relied upon in a big spot so who cares about how many minutes he has played. Plus he will have to fight for the final spot on the roster with Bobby Brown so no guarantee he’ll even make the team IF he is even signed. Pargo is not good(anymore), not great and not an all star but as the last guy on the bench he is “ok”.

So why pay a dime to somebody you know stinks, and never will get any PT. Why not take a chance on some 20 year old kid who went undrafted. The minimum for him would be cheaper, plus there’s a chance, even if it’s a slim one, that he turns out to be serviceable and produces on the court.

@adamsjohn714 it didnt let me repy again for some reason BUT the Knicks did get a 20 something year old pg his name is Bobby Brown and the Knicks can only offer a min deal and it doesnt get any cheaper then that….let pargo and bobby brown duke it out for the final spot….nothing wrong with a little competition….

    • adamsjohn714 - Aug 3, 2013 at 5:51 PM

well that was smart of them. However, judging by their other moves I’d guess that’s just luck. Why not just let Brown compete with another youngster? Its the same argument.

I say if we are going to sign a Pargo it should be Jeremy, he shot 41% from 3pt last yr and is a gr8 dunker has gd pg skills plays D’ I think he would be a better pickup @ 27yrs old.
