Knicks’ Ossie Schectman, who scored first points in NBA history, dies

Jul 30, 2013, 4:48 PM EDT

Oscar B. “Ossie” Schectman — the man credited with scoring the first basket in the first ever NBA game (then called the BAA) — has passed away at the age of 94.

He played a little before my time (1946-47) but the NBA History twitter feed did a nice tribute to him, which we pass along part of.

Much respect for this legendary man. You will be missed. Made an online memorial in your honor: http://www.thememorium.com/Memorials/ossie-schectman #OssieSchectman #NBA #FirstBasket

    Say Queensbridge!! RIP Ossie.

Never knew who scored the 1st bucket. That’s some good trivia right there. It’s not very often I get stumped on bball trivia.

94…that’s a good life man, for reals. Wish there would have been an interview with him with questions on his take of bball and the players throughout the decades since up onto this point he’s seen it all.
