It’s official: Kyrie Irving is on the cover of NBA Live 14

Jul 25, 2013, 2:09 PM EDT

Kyrie Irving, here is the sign that you have really arrived.

We told you this was coming, but now it is official: Irving will be the guy on the cover of NBA Live 14, EA Sports announced Thursday.

EA announced a couple of years back they were returning with the Live series, hoping to challenge the NBA 2K franchise, but they postponed the launch for a year. This time they are ready to go. I’m looking forward to seeing how it looks full five-on-five.

This is big for Irving. He is getting close to entering the stratosphere of the most elite players in the NBA and landing on the NBA Live cover is just the latest sign. Next season he and the Cavaliers could and should make the playoffs in the East (with or without an Andrew Bynum contribution) then it will build from there. In a few years he will pass Chris Paul as the best point guard in the game, and opportunities and pressure will mount.

This is just the latest sign of where he is headed.

Here is the first trailer for the game, released a month ago.

According to post on another article here John Wall is on par with him if not better and deserves 80 million.

    • llfreedman - Jul 25, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Kryie is a max player and J. Wall is a 16 mil a year guy. I think that’s pretty fair.

    • tampajoey - Jul 25, 2013 at 2:24 PM

John Wall couldn’t hold Kyrie’s sweaty jockstrap.

      • pudgalvin - Jul 25, 2013 at 4:14 PM

Becuase he’s always too injured to carry anything?

      • llfreedman - Jul 25, 2013 at 4:19 PM

Kryie is more injury prone than Wall is. Kryie has been hurt every year of his college/professional career.

      • sire2334 - Jul 25, 2013 at 8:58 PM

What is up with you Kyrie “Stans”? Yes I know that word is over used but this shows the definition to a tee. Forst off, NO one said Wall was better than Kyrie so the fact that you mention Wall shows, subliminally you know he’s closer than you think.

Second, let take a peek at the stats shall we? Sure Kyrie averages a FEW more points per game, but Wall avgs more Assists, Steals, Blocks and Boards. And on top of all of that if we’re talking about last years John Wall, I’d take him over Kyrie.

The question is can Wall duplicate or get better. Either way the asanine comment of “John Wall couldn’t hold Kyrie’s sweaty jockstrap.” is ignorant and clearly you have an ignorant following.

John Wall is on par with Jeff Teague, he cant even shoot the three. He isn’t even an All Star yet!

    • wickaveli - Jul 25, 2013 at 9:42 PM

Kyrie is an All Star, ROY,MVP Rookie game, 3 point shoot out Champion, Team USA select team etc. and John Wall……..was like 8 for 149 from three! sad sad sad!

    • spthegr8 - Jul 25, 2013 at 11:36 PM

They still make NBA Live…?????? IDK, they haven’t made a game in like 5 yrs. Kyrie is WELL deserving of the cover but EVERYBODY plays 2K now. NBA Live ( EA Sports ) DROPPED THE BALL ( No pun intended )!!!!!!

  3. goraidersgospurs - Jul 25, 2013 at 2:23 PM

Still saying Chris Paul is the best PG in the NBA, SMH

    • goraidersgospurs - Jul 25, 2013 at 4:35 PM

Sorry people my mistake I just looked up stats and it says Chris Paul lead the Clippers to the first round of the playoffs, Tony Parker only lead San Antonio to the finals, I guess Chris Paul is the better PG once again SORRY!!!

      • 00maltliquor - Jul 25, 2013 at 7:04 PM

Put CP3 on the Spurs in place of Parker and it would have been YOU guys hoisting that trophy. Not Miami. Especially with the ball in his hands at the end of game 6 before the epic Manu/Kawhi meltdown.

      • goraidersgospurs - Jul 25, 2013 at 7:09 PM

TONY Parker was being cover by LBJ the whole series what more could CP do that TP did not do??

  4. sfsugator - Jul 25, 2013 at 2:26 PM

    Nba 2k14 > nba live 14

  5. moseskkim - Jul 25, 2013 at 3:41 PM

  6. htownred34 - Jul 25, 2013 at 3:42 PM

  7. htownred34 - Jul 25, 2013 at 3:43 PM

  8. ohioteamsusuallysuck - Jul 25, 2013 at 4:55 PM

I love kyrie but I love 2k. I’m gonna have to check out the demo when it comes out. I used to get every nba live going back to ps1. I got 2k with Ben Wallace on cover and I never went back to live

  9. reesesteel23 - Jul 25, 2013 at 5:10 PM

Been a 2k fan since Iverson was on the NBA2K cover for Dreamcast!

  10. sportsnut101 - Jul 25, 2013 at 5:20 PM

I will check the game out when it’s on sale for 20 not 60

Live use to be tops. N 2k sucked

    Dreamcast sucked

  11. antistratfordian - Jul 25, 2013 at 5:48 PM

Now he just has to stay healthy. Maybe Bynum can give him some pointers.

  12. themagicfanguy - Jul 25, 2013 at 7:19 PM

Lets not act like 2K is perfect. I love 2K, but 2K13 was a lazy effort. I hope Live does well just so 2K will step their game up.

  13. sackings916 - Jul 25, 2013 at 7:29 PM

    2k all the way

  14. chargerdillon - Jul 25, 2013 at 7:51 PM

It’s official! Kyrie Irving was the cheapest B-Level star willing to be on the cover!

  15. cullenand99 - Jul 25, 2013 at 10:32 PM

I’m sure the 17 people who will buy NBA Live 14 are going to live this.

    • cullenand99 - Jul 25, 2013 at 10:33 PM

      *love

  16. sackings916 - Jul 26, 2013 at 12:35 AM

The only way NBA Live can be remotely successful is to make it just like 2K in every way possible! There is a reason why Live went belly up years back. Stick with Madden EA sports, bball isn’t your forte.

  17. clevelandschronic2 - Jul 26, 2013 at 8:55 AM

How is kyrie injury prone. Lmfao and howard isnt. Or how about dwade hes injury prone. Kyrie has been in the nba for 2 years. Yet hes labeled injury prone what exact injury has he had that was serious? His toe in college a broken nose and a hand injury. Noneof these are serious yet u clowns have labeled him prone to injuries. Hes played 110 games out of 140 or so (60 game shortened season and a full 82) and dont even put wall in the same category as uncle drew. Wall isnt close to being in the same galaxy as irving. Irving is on his way to being the best pg in the league. Wall isnt. Get ready cuz the cavs are back and ready to do some damage in the playoffs.

  18. sackings916 - Jul 26, 2013 at 10:10 AM

I agree! Kyrie Irving is a stud and will bring the Cavs back to the playoffs before Wall will with the Wiz.. Both teams however will not go far at all yet since the east has gotten much tougher now.
