It’s not quite the Royal Baby, but on the list of things that have gotten too much press this summer we bring you…

Greg Oden is nearing a decision.

Apparently it is going to come some time next week, which means with the Royal Baby out of the way we can all set up camp and go on “Oden Watch 2013.” Marc Spears at Yahoo with the latest.

Oden, the former No. 1 pick and potential solid defensive player in the post, worked out this week for the Heat, Kings and Pelicans (one joint workout). Team are preparing and in some cases have made offers, the rest have done their due diligence on the knees that has kept the former No. 1 overall pick out of the NBA since 2009.

The Heat and Spurs are considered the favorites to land Oden, because they can give him defined roles and a chance to win. New Orleans is selling the prospect of being out of the spotlight that the Heat and Spurs would bring. Dallas has a great training staff. Sacramento and Atlanta have their upsides as well.

I guess we’ll find out his decision next week. Unless we don’t. It’s summer, it’s not like the rest of us have anything to do, so take your time.

So much fanfare for someone who is unlikely to have any impact.

    • ProBasketballPundit - Jul 24, 2013 at 12:39 PM

Unlikely is an undersell. The only impact Oden will have is the same type of impact the Lakers had last season; he’ll dominate the basketball talk shows & websites without producing anything of value.

Hopefully for Oden, he’s been cookie monster style gobbling down some HGH while away from the NBA to fix those knees.

    • money2long - Jul 23, 2013 at 9:30 PM

it’s quite possible . funny enough, that idea gives me more faith in a successful comeback.

That actually makes a lot of sense considering it’s only a banned substance in professional sports.

  3. cantonbound13 - Jul 23, 2013 at 7:32 PM

New Orleans would be a great place for him.

  4. proxysays - Jul 23, 2013 at 7:56 PM

Can’t wait until they are done talking about him.

  5. soflasfinest - Jul 23, 2013 at 8:01 PM

    Miami. Book it

  6. philtration - Jul 23, 2013 at 8:42 PM

Are you really going to do a “decision watch” on a player who has done absolutely NOTHING in the NBA and has not played since 2009?
82 games played, 9 PPG when he was on the floor and one of the biggest draft busts in league history.
He makes Portland drafting Sam Bowie look good.

    Who the hell cares?

    • mrwhiteshadez - Jul 24, 2013 at 9:17 AM

He was a former #1 overall pick, and was drafted AHEAD of Kevin Durant. So yeah…he’s getting a lot of publicity. Oh, and he’s a 7′ black man…so that helps too.

Miami baby no state income tax south beach oh lebron wade bosh allen going for a three peat f the rest of you all HHHEEEEAAAAAT

    • sportsnut101 - Jul 23, 2013 at 9:07 PM

      He’s too old for south

He can barely walk so what does it matter if it’s south beach or sac town

This dude was overhyped from day 1

I rather duan Blair of the spurs. Who battles gives u points rebounds as well n plays def

N here’s the key factor. He’s never injured

      • bigmeechy74 - Jul 24, 2013 at 9:36 PM

        Dejuan Blair?

    • zelaya322 - Jul 23, 2013 at 9:35 PM

Miami hasn’t gotten any better, only older and more beat up. Explain how they plan to win it all next year. Oden is the missing link?

      • HotHotHeat - Jul 24, 2013 at 12:15 AM

        Two words: Lebron James

    • patfic15 - Jul 23, 2013 at 11:47 PM

      So poetic.

  8. zelaya322 - Jul 23, 2013 at 9:37 PM

So Oden isn’t boycotting Florida with Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, and Stevie Wonder???

  9. stayhigh_247 - Jul 23, 2013 at 11:45 PM

How hard of a decision is this for him? I mean seriously, Eddie Curry got a ring in Miami and a partially healthy Oden brings much more to the table than him. Really, you have to think about it? I’m not even a Heat fan and this is a no brainer and you get to live/work in South Beach with some of the worlds sexiest women.

    • gofinsgoheatfloria - Jul 24, 2013 at 7:33 AM

Live in South Beach, maybe. Work, no. “The Decision” may have been entertaining, but it was a lousy geography lesson. South Beach is across the bay from the Arena.

  10. bifford - Jul 24, 2013 at 12:00 AM

He’s close to deciding who will pay him to wear a suit for a year when he inevitably gently brushes his knee against something and it shatters like a broken plate that was glued back together by a 6 year old?

  11. atlbrave5 - Jul 24, 2013 at 12:04 AM

What a joke some NBA teams are. Wait so let me get this straight…New Orleans’ selling point to Greg Oden is a chance for him to play OUT OF THE SPOTLIGHT?? This guy is the former #1 overall draft pick, he is playing in the best highest bball league on the planet why would he want to go down to New Orleans and play in obscurity??? The bottom line is this…he goes to the Miami Heat..plays on NATIONAL TV 1-2 nights per week with the best team in the league, plays well and then gets A BIGGER CONTRACT NEXT SEASON!! Sorry to be yelling and screaming like Steven A. Smith, but the Pelicans are a joke, ATL has money but they ain’t spending it on two bad knees again (see Speedy Claxton $24mil), Dallas would be a good choice, Sacramento…LMAO! very funny and obviously the Spurs would be great. But with Miami, you get the sun, the beach and you get to win and play with LBJ C’MON son this is an easy decision Greg.

  12. cornbreadbbqred - Jul 24, 2013 at 3:36 AM

I bet the Lakers can land him!

    (Yes, I have been drinking!)

  13. dolphins4 - Jul 24, 2013 at 10:01 AM

I hope he selects the Miami Heat.

    • mrwhiteshadez - Jul 24, 2013 at 11:40 AM

I hope you get hit by a bus.

  14. sikchelo - Jul 24, 2013 at 11:37 AM

Oden would be a major contribution for the heat…

  15. SportsChump - Jul 24, 2013 at 3:40 PM

Greg Oden “sets decision timetable” on where he’ll sign? Who’s his advisor? Dwight Howard?
