Iman Shumpert denies report he is unhappy with Knicks’ offseason additions

Welcome to our latest edition of NBA he-said/she-said, featuring Iman Shumpert and the New York Knicks.

A report appeared in the New York Daily News on Sunday which described some possible tension brewing between Shumpert and the franchise.

It didn’t seem all that explosive, or really even that noteworthy considering what was already essentially public knowledge.

But we’ll let you decide.

Let’s assume that Metta will be a model citizen and is all grown up now. Those same coaches and executives believe that will be the case. But they were also near unanimous in that they feel Metta the basketball player is near his expiration date.

I guess the only question is if [Metta World Peace] expires before Shumpert, one of the few Knicks who has value. Dolan is reportedly upset that Shumpert wasn’t interested in working with the summer league team and wants to trade him. Shumpert, I’ve heard, isn’t too crazy about the moves the Knicks have made, which could further stunt his development.

It was one remark in painting the larger picture of what went down with the Knicks during the offseason, and what role the team’s owner James Dolan had played in it all.

We had already heard a report that Dolan was upset with Shumpert for what was perceived as a level of disinterest in participating in Summer League, to the point where he had considered trading him, if only impulsively.

Whatever friction does or does not exist, Shumpert felt the need to personally address it.

As with most of these types of things, there’s probably some grains of truth to be found on both sides. But either way, good on Shumpert for publicly pledging his allegiance to the Knicks franchise.

Let’s be honest…MWP is the ideal fwd for Mike Woodson, big, tough and can contribute in every area. He will be starting every game by the end of the season and Shumpert will be coming off the bench is a lessor roll. He has good reason to gripe about playing for the Summer League team. He will be demoted to the bench for the season and he is demoted in the summer by having to play with guys that won’t even be on the team!

That’s not it at all, they’ll both be starting with JR Smith coming in early to replace whoever has more fouls. Or maybe Bargnani comes in early for Metta and Melo moves to the 3. One thing is for sure; Shump is starting. This whole BS rumor came from the clown Stephen A. He said that in an off air moment in the Howard interview that got recorded. He’s the king of BS rumors.

Why the hell would they even consider starting Metta over Shump? You clearly don’t follow the team.

I actually follow the team very closely and living here in ATL I know Woodson probably a lot better than you do since he coached here longer! Woodson likes toughness! He comes from the Pistons/Larry Brown pedigree and MWP is the ideal power player that Woodson loves. The starting line-up next year will be debatable depending on who they are playing on a particular night, but don’t be surprised to see the following:
        5. Chandler
        4. Melo
        3. Bargnani
        2. MWP
        1. Ray Felt

Obviously J.R. comes off the bench as the 6th man then followed by Amare, Shump and Prigioni. Bottom line is this, I love Shump..he played right across the street from me at GA Tech. He was a steal in the draft, but after his rookie year he has taken a step back (mainly due to injury) but even on the court he has been inconsistent. At this point right now MWP is a bigger better shooting more consistent version of Shump! I don’t care how much you have watched them in the past, I’m talking about RIGHT NOW!

I really don’t see the hype surrounding this guy. He’s an above-average defender, but appears to be one of those guys who doesn’t really do anything well offensively. He shoots 40% from the field, although he’s a decent 3pt shooter.

He’s not a guy who can create his own shot, which is what you’d hope for out of a starting 2-guard.

This guy is just not starting quality (on a good team). He could be an excellent role player off the bench, or can be used in certain situations (where his defense is needed). But he is not an everyday starter on a playoff team.

Your stupid because shumpert plays and is going to play the 2 spot. Felton is the point, shumpert is the 2 mwp is the 3, melo is the 4 and tyson will be the center. Just as last year. Smith and prigioni come off the bench and so does stat. Why in the world would anybody think about having iman shumpert come off the bench. That’s ridiculous. He is one of the nba’s best defenders (no offense to MWP). They don’t play te same position. Look at LA kobe was the 2 and MWP was the 3. And last year with the knicks. The only reason shumpert spent some time at the 3 was because they thought Jason Kidd was still valuable at the 2 spot.

@altbrave5 – Let’s be honest. You got 16 thumbs up and 64 down as of this reading. Clearly most people think you’re nuts…

In case you haven’t been watching, MWP’s game has been on the decline progressively the last two years. There’s no reason to think he’s going to work harder or be better this year, and if you think Woodson is going to sit MWP for Shumpart (who clearly has more then enough firepower and defense NOW), then I think you’re smoking a superior form of pot. Shumpart has more game NOW plus he has the potential to get better while MWP is only going to go downwards.

You mentioned toughness and how you “know” Woodson? Evidently you don’t “know” Shumpart and haven’t been watching him. MWP takes games off. Shumpart gives you max effort and toughness every night.

I know one thing. Woodson knows Shumpart better than you do, and Woodson is a smart coach. Don’t be surprised if MWP ends up coming off the bench and Shumpart is a star player before the end of this season.

Frank Isola is on a one man crusade to sabotage the Knicks before the season begins. I choose not to believe much of anything that’s put out there by him of the NY Daily News.

Why Get Upset About a Player Who Came Back Off Knee Surgery Early & Played Through The Discomfort.
Why Would Dolan Even Want Shup On The Floor Instead Of Letting Him Rest His Knee.
If True, Dolan Is A Piece Of S#!+.
The Again, This Is All Rumors.
