Report: Heat, Rockets, Bulls, Clippers all interested in Camby

New York Knicks' Camby gestures while waiting for foul shot by Dallas Mavericks during their NBA basketball game in New York Reuters

The Toronto Raptors are on the verge of buying out Marcus Camby. He was traded to Toronto as part of the Andrea Bargnani deal (have fun with that one Knicks) but the veteran didn’t want to spend the last couple years of his career with a rebuilding team.

He wanted to go to a contender.

Which is what looks like will happen once the buyout is complete, reports Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com.

While a couple of those teams have all or part of their mid-level exception left, this almost certainly would be a minimum deal.

The Heat are in the Greg Oden race, if they land Camby that chase likely ends. The Clippers would be a place Camby certainly could get minutes as they are thin behind DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin up front.

Camby could help a team with defense in the paint and a solid midrange jumper, if he can stay healthy — he has only played in 43 games combined the past two seasons.

I don’t understand the Rockets’ interest in him. They already have Howard and Asik, I hope they don’t plan on playing any 2 of those guys at the same time.

      No chance he chooses Rockets

Are you his agent? he makes his home in Houston, at this stage of his career Houston & being close to his kids make more sense.

      • loubearkane - Jul 18, 2013 at 6:30 PM

I think Houston will need a season to put it all together.

Um, because their professed love for Asik is a smokescreen. They’re going to trade him by the deadline.

    • jackntorres - Jul 18, 2013 at 12:39 PM

I know his cap hit is ONLY 8.3 mil for 2014-2015, but who wants to pay him $14,898,938? That was rhetorical.

Lest we forget Lin has the same salary.

I dont know what Howard saw in a Rockets team with Parsons as the second best player.

Any team that needs a big man should be happy to have Asik. He’s a very good player.

We’re getting to the “look around the bar at last call for the least bad looking girl left” time of free-agency.

I loved Camby when he was on the Rockets. I feel like every time I looked at the stat sheet he would rack up like 8 points, 16 rebounds, and a block or two.

    • dblevins2013 - Jul 18, 2013 at 12:17 PM

I agree I really liked Camby when he was a Rocket and I do think they will trade Asik at some point. Can’t wait for the season to start!!!

LMAO, Here It Comes Now With This Headline,
“The Cavs Are Trying to Land Camby”.
    The Cavs Are A Joke.
Lebron Is Not Going Back Next Season.

    A 4 at 10 becomes a 10 at 4

The Clippers need to pass . Learn from your past mistakes …Chauncey Billups and Drew Hill . Hall of Famers ? Yes , just not for the Clippers . Look towards the Summer League and pick up a 6’9″ 265 lbs. youngster who is hungry and has some European or ” D ” league experience . Camby is the answer.

HECK NO…HEAT DON’T NEED HIM..HE DIDN’T WANNA PLAY FOR US LAST YEAR…FORGET CAMBY!!!

    • tuberippin - Jul 20, 2013 at 6:31 AM

They didn’t need Juwan Howard either. What’s your point?

  11. jimmymarlinsfan - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:42 PM

At this point, I’d rather have Big Z come out of retirement than taking punk Camby

  12. sportsfan18 - Jul 18, 2013 at 5:39 PM

I think he’ll either choose the Heat to try and win a title or Houston because it’s where his home and children are…
