Report: Mavericks, Devin Harris trying to work out new deal

The Dallas Mavericks had a deal to bring Devin Harris back as their point guard, 3 years and $9 million. They had shipped a promising young Harris out in the Jason Kidd deal back in 2008, but now they were bringing him back home. All he had to do was pass that team physical…

Except he didn’t. X-Rays found he had a dislocated toe on his left foot that would require surgery to fix. So Dallas killed the deal he had in place.

But now the two sides are back at it trying to come to terms on a new contract, reports Marc Stein of ESPN.

The team is set at the point already, so this is not going to be a big contract. Jose Calderon will start, behind him will be Israeli league MVP Gal Mekel who has shown a lot of promise at Summer League. Harris will get into the rotation if/when he signs and eventually returns. There is also promising rookie Shane Larkin, who is out with a broken ankle but should be back for the start of the season.

Monta Ellis is going to dominate the ball anyway, but it’s good to have some point guards on the roster.

Why do they need ANOTHER pg?

Well, they do always try to copy the Spurs. I think at this point, RC is just f’ing with Cuban…

I’d been giving Cubes the benefit of the doubt, but he has swung and missed many times in as row now.

The fact of the matter is that they last 2 seasons have been a waste of Dirk and his talents.

This coming year will be another waste.

While Dirk is NOT an MJ, Magic, Bird etc… he is a star and teams are lucky to have them in this day and age. Not every team has a true star, far from it.

This means that the Mavs have effectively wasted (or will waste) the last 4 yrs or so of his career.

Dirk is 35 this year. He is currently 21st all time in scoring in the NBA. He’ll be around 15th place after this coming season (being conservative). If he plays the year after this coming season, he should pass Shaq for 8th place on the all time scoring list (again, being conservative).

Dirk is currently 19th all time on the NBA list of PER.

Players like this don’t come around often and the Mavs have squandered many consecutive good years from a player of this caliber…

I was kinda hoping that he would end up in Milwaukee. Since he is from Milwaukee and went to Wauwatosa East.

Devin was signed because he can play the point or off guard. Like the move because he’s a good player at a good price.

    While I don’t agree with signing a guy to a 27 million year deal, at 3 bucks a year it’s a steal.
