Rajon Rondo: “I will never play for the Miami Heat”

Jul 15, 2013, 12:00 PM EDT

Rajon Rondo is the guy left standing, at least for now, as the Boston Celtics tear apart their roster to rebuild. Paul Pierce is gone. Kevin Garnett is gone. The “big three” era is gone. More changes are coming.

Rondo’s name has and will continue to come up in trade rumors this summer and into next season for pretty much every place on the planet. But at his camp in Kentucky Rondo was taking questions from the crowd and said something that will certainly play well in Boston. Via

“I will never play for the Miami Heat”

I could do a whole paragraph about how this is a business and someday he could end up anywhere. I mean who could have pictured Pierce in a Nets uniform a couple of years ago. But I’m not going to do that… oh, guess I did. Sorry. Never mind. Just go about enjoying the quote and your hatred of Miami, Boston.

Next thing rondo will say is that i want to play for the suns

  2. 1historian - Jul 15, 2013 at 2:26 PM

Danny Ainge is just starting rebuilding the celts – right now he has 2 more players under contract than he has roster positions, so this is just the beginning.

It’s going to be interesting for the next few years – probably a lot more fun watching the news releases than the actual games, but I for one trust him to make the right moves.

We’ll be (back) in the playoffs by 2016

The point guard in Miami is better than Rondo anyways, plus he’s faster, stronger, Much better scorer… Maybe Rondo’s a little better at passing, but not by much. Plus Lebron can play every other position on the floor too… As a Heat fan though, I do love that Miami is on players mind so much that they can get respect points from fans by proclaiming who they don’t want to play

Pity is given, jealousy is earned…

Heat fans don’t remember the 07-08 season when they went 15-67, cause Heat fans didn’t exist that year

    • sasquash20 - Jul 15, 2013 at 2:48 PM

they left early in the 4th qt against the Spurs in game 6(if my memory serves correct), that means you suck as fans

      • gofinsgoheatfloria - Jul 15, 2013 at 7:34 PM

The vast majority of the fans were still there, of course, very loudly (as your memory surely does serve to remind you) enjoying Ray proving that he was so right to come and that Riles was so right to get him here.

    • xLith - Jul 15, 2013 at 2:59 PM

They say people easily forget the bad when you’re winning.

After 2-3 years when the Heat are tanking again, I bet most of them will be clinging onto their past championships like the Cowboys fans.

    • bcb11 - Jul 15, 2013 at 3:57 PM

Yet another ignorant comment. That’s the year I began following them.

  5. adoombray - Jul 15, 2013 at 2:59 PM

Steve Nash spent his whole career swearing he would never play for the Lakers, said it again in the offseason, then a week later begged Robert Sarver for a sign and trade to the Lakers so he could get more money and be “closer to his kids” even though he sued his ex to prevent her from moving to LA because she might be able to negotiate a few extra grand in child support.

In other words, none of this actually means anything to the athletes. The paycheck does. The uniforms and logo’s are for the fans.

  6. mblue24 - Jul 15, 2013 at 3:04 PM

Rondo to Detroit or next year Rondo and Anthony to the Lakers. It will happen. Watch.

  7. leoimpr - Jul 15, 2013 at 3:44 PM

we dont need you, we dont want you. When time comes to rebuilt we will never do it around an a hole like you.

  8. goldmember21 - Jul 15, 2013 at 3:50 PM

    Ronda… I mean.. Rondo.. Go jump in a lake…

  9. rodge1 - Jul 15, 2013 at 4:03 PM

Thank you Rondo, we will never like you down here in Miami so it works for both parties.

  10. brutl - Jul 15, 2013 at 4:06 PM

    Yeah have fun losing, Rondo.
Even Celtic’s fans have a hard time liking you.. the ones who didn’t jump ship to the nets that is.

  11. addictedzone - Jul 15, 2013 at 4:34 PM

Noah hates the Heat but the Heat would love to have him on their roster. Rondo hates the Heat and the Heat wouldn’t sign him for the minimum.

  12. bigwii - Jul 15, 2013 at 4:47 PM

I know it’s hard but stay classy Heat fans. Quit pretending like you wouldn’t love for Rondo to play for your team. If they traded anybody but LeBron for him you would be stoked.

  13. 808raiderinparadise - Jul 15, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Ah, Rando is ok with just one title? Piss poor teamate. Loser attitude.

Rott away in Boston. Too much pride to play with the LeBron? Thats ok this drag queen looking loser can waste his incredible talent in Boston with Butler boy.

    He’s right.

The NBA is just the Heat and the other guys. Not even worth watching again until someone else has at least a chance to win. I wish every player thought the way Rondo does. Let LeBron win on his own. Why not stack a Timberwolves or Wizards team to beat the Heat? THAT would be must watch sports!

    • gofinsgoheatfloria - Jul 15, 2013 at 10:13 PM

San Antonio was up 5 points with 28 seconds to go in a close-out game. Sounds like a “chance to win” to me.

  17. 13arod - Jul 16, 2013 at 12:05 AM

    Never say never

    • badintent - Jul 16, 2013 at 2:12 AM

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ talks, BS walks.never say never

      • emosnar - Jul 16, 2013 at 10:53 AM

You guys don’t get it. Rondo is a competitor pure and simple. He knows who the competition is and you don’t run to join them you try to beat them. I wish I had 5 Rondos in my starting line up with that personality. You guys just don’t get this dude because of the fire he shows on the court you guys think he is an ass. Then you want to rag on his jumper. Well the jumper is improved. I’ll take a healthy Rondo over any point guard in the league (except maybe a healthy D Rose). Proven champion, man of integrity and not trying to be buddy buddy with everyone in the league. Its not always about money in a league full of it. Real champs/winners with hunger want that legacy and ring. Its not always about shallow thoughts with these player like you all want to think. The NBA is entering a Renaissance. The ratings have soared each year. Miami won back to back but that doesn’t mean they are way ahead of the competition. They are winning fair and square but by the skin of their teeth. Just like the Jordan era, there we so many great players, Jordan finally broke through and ran the table but unlike the 90’s, the heat wont go on a run like the Bulls. Teams retooled. If Miami gets Oden then there could be a problem. But, the NBA is fantastic and these players are shallow money grabbers like you all think. Majority want TITLES!!! Braggin Rights!!!

You might have bad intent, but you hit the nail on the head.

      • badintent - Jul 18, 2013 at 1:36 AM

OOOOuch !! The hammer hit my nail.Dang it.LOL

  18. jh4prez - Jul 16, 2013 at 7:59 AM

Rondo is such a hard ass i actually believe he would retire before he let that happen.

  19. pl4tinum514 - Jul 16, 2013 at 3:57 PM

My guess is Rondo means “I won’t go ring chase with those guys if the opportunity ever arises.” Nothing wrong with that in my eyes.

  20. johnmiked - Jul 17, 2013 at 7:14 AM

He can come to New York City any day of the week. Hey Rondo force a trade to NYK buddy.
