Mavericks’ first round pick Shane Larkin suffers broken ankle, out 2-3 months

Jul 12, 2013, 7:50 PM EDT

LAS VEGAS — Just as we were discussing top draft picks who will miss Summer League due to injury, we get word of another one to add to that list.

From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports:

Any injury is obviously tough, but this might’ve been Larkin’s only chance to get some court time in considering all of the additions the Mavericks made at the guard spot this offseason.

Dallas signed point guards Jose Calderon and Devin Harris, and then went out and got a dynamic scorer at the position in Monta Ellis.

Larkin was selected by Dallas with the 18th overall pick in this year’s draft. The team’s other two rookies, Gal Mekel and Ricky Ledo, will be a part of the Summer League roster.

The Mavericks will open Summer League play in Las Vegas on Saturday against the Sacramento Kings.

It already has. The Devin Harris deal is now off due to a toe injury.

Rough. Shane made a fan out of me this year.

Leading the U past Duke and North Carolina to capture their first ACC regular season and tournament titles is an accomplishment that cannot be understated.

How did the Mavericks become cursed?

Cuban made a deal with the devil, and the man with the pitchfork has come to collect.

I loved the drafting of Led. Extremely talented kid who was ineligible to play in college last year. If he did, I believe he would’ve challenged for Big East rookie of the year, and certainly would have been a first round pick. Hopefully not playing at all last year won’t stunt his growth and the Mavs will be able to help him develop.
