Rockets agree to two-year deal with Francisco Garcia

Jul 7, 2013, 2:00 PM EDT

Francisco Garcia was essentially a throw-in as part of the deal made at the trade deadline that sent Thomas Robinson from the Kings to the Rockets.

Garcia was looked at as not  much more than an expiring contract,  because he had a team option for next season for $6.5 million that was out of line with his level of production.

In the playoffs, however, Garcia had some big moments for the Rockets in helping them push the Thunder to six games in the first round. That was enough for Houston to bring him back on a two-year deal, but at a far more reasonable price.

Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports that it’s a veteran’s minimum contact worth a total of $2.6 million, with Garcia holding the option for the second season.

Garcia provides another shooter on the perimeter for the Rockets, who (as you may have heard) landed Dwight Howard in free agency. Garcia averaged 10.6 points per game in the six playoff contests against the Thunder, while knocking down 45.9 percent of the shots he took from three-point distance.
