Omri Casspi agrees to two-year deal with the Rockets

When I spoke with Omri Casspi last month in Italy at adidas Eurocamp, he wasn’t yet sure if the Cavaliers would extend him the qualifying offer necessary to make him a restricted free agent.

But after playing for losing teams in each of his first four NBA seasons, Casspi wasn’t only looking for a new contract — he was hoping to get on with a winning organization, as well.

“I just want to be in the right situation, play for the right team, and win — you know, compete for something,” Casspi said. “I’ve been in the league four years now and never competed really in the playoffs, or been part of a winning organization. It’s a big key choosing my next team.”

His next team will be the Houston Rockets.

According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, it’s a two-year, $2.6 million deal that will include a team option for that second season.

Winning was already happening in Houston, where the team reached the playoffs last season and hassled the Thunder in the first round, before being defeated in six games. Now that Dwight Howard has agreed to join the team, there should be an immediate uptick in that department, and Casspi will get the chance he was looking for to be a contributor in a more positive situation.
