Nets reportedly out of the running for Kyle Korver

It was only a short time ago when Kyle Korver signing with Brooklyn in free agency was believed to be “in the bag.”

That bag has quickly become empty, as the Nets are now reportedly out of the running for Korver’s services.

Chris Broussard of ESPN.com says it came down to money, which Brooklyn has very little to offer someone like Korver who is one of the game’s best and most consistent shooters from three-point distance.

As we noted previously, Korver and Stephen Curry are the only players to shoot at least 41 percent from beyond the arc in each of the last four seasons, and while the rest of Korver’s skill set is limited, that kind of production comes at a much higher price than the Nets are able to afford.

Brooklyn can only offer Korver a three-year deal worth in the neighborhood of $10 million total, and using the recent deals agreed to by J.J. Redick and Martell Webster as an example, it isn’t unreasonable to believe that Korver could fetch close to twice what the Nets have to offer.

Korver is 32 years old and this may be his last chance at a multi-year payday, so it’s understandable that he may decide to take it in lieu of choosing to play for a team like the Nets that are trying to rise to the level of contenders.

Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports that the Bucks, who are also linked to having interest in J.R. Smith, are offering Korver a three-year deal worth $20 million.

Undoubtedly, that won’t make Deron Williams feel any better about the situation.
