Dwight Howard, John Wall speak Chinese (VIDEO)

Jul 2, 2013, 3:41 PM EDT

In a promotional spot for an upcoming trip to China this summer, Dwight Howard and John Wall have a totally realistic conversation with Yi Jianlian in Chinese.

It’s all fun and games, of course, until Wall (as pointed out by Kelly Dwyer over at Yahoo!’s Ball Don’t Lie) tries to claim that he’s never been out of the United States, when he’s played against the Toronto Raptors in Canada more than once.

The last line that Howard utters near the end of the clip in the outtakes portion, when botching whatever phrase he was supposed to be saying, is unintentional comedy at its finest.

I studied Chinese for many years, so I can read, write and speak the language to some degree – not fluent though. However, I can say with some authority that John Wall and Dwight Howard’s Chinese was REALLY poor! Good on them for giving it a try though! It’s such a difficult language, and it has no connection to any western language, so you have to learn everything from scratch – including how to pronounce words properly.

Very funny video though. I enjoyed it – especially the outtakes! :-)

Was that filmed in Los Angeles, Dallas, or Houston?

Dwight Howard sucks. He should move to china where he would actually live up to the hype (maybe).

Yes being able to put up 20 pts 20 rebounds is such a garbage player. What are these NBA teams thinking ?!

20 points and 20 rebounds when it doesn’t mean anything. The guy has no drive.

DH is overrated. Why are all these teams begging him?

I love all this DH hate. Glad to see everyone is on the same page about what a lame this guy is. Can’t wait till he fails to live up to the hype on the next team he plays for.

Btw, that looked as forced as a DH’s free throws.
