C.J. Watson headed to the Indiana Pacers. That’s a good get.

Jul 1, 2013, 4:27 PM EST

Reports had circulated that C.J. Watson, who spent last season backing up Deron Williams in Brooklyn, was negotiating with the Indiana Pacers.

Then came this tweet Monday from Watson.

Nothing is official until ink stains the paper on July 10 (the first day contracts can be signed) but the Pacers have picked up a quality reserve point guard. Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld had been all over this and said this is a two-year deal for more than the league minimum.

This is a fantastic fit. The Pacers had a powerful starting five with George Hill running the point for Paul George and Roy Hibbert, but there was a dramatic drop off to their bench. Plus, there were moments they needed a more traditional point guard for matchup reasons.

Watson is not a consistently elite point but he had some great games a couple seasons ago when Derrick Rose spent part of the season injured and Watson had to step in. Watson is a solid playmaker who shot 41.1 percent from three last season.

This is a big upgrade over D.J. Augustin without paying a lot.

The Pacers just got better.

i won’t believe it until she changes the background on his twitter page

That’s a monster upgrade, Watson is a solid player.

Good signing. It’s the best teams like my Pacers can do and at least we didn’t overpay like we did last year(George Hill 8 million a year… yuck).

Solid backup, ill take him over D.J. Augustin right now.

Pacers need playmaking ability. Hill doesn’t have that and neither does cj Watson. I think Watson’s a good player but a Calderon type player is what they need.

    • pglive21 - Jul 1, 2013 at 6:10 PM

No way. Calderon would be even worse than Augustin defensively.

      • moseskkim - Jul 1, 2013 at 6:49 PM

Trust, indiana has a strong enough defense that el toro can play and it’ll be ok. Calderon is a premier passer in the league. Indiana lacks playmaking and is major strong on defense.

    A good get?

Bro, this is a casual basketball blog. We can make this a college literature class that would appear to fit your style but where’s the fun in that?

If they want playmaking ability, they should go after Nate Robionson too, but I’m not sure how feasible that is now that they have Watson.

Watson was the perfect match for the pacers. They needed someone who can space the floor and make/create shots for the bench unit. I loved this guy when he was on my warriors! Now thats a good get! ^^^^

Great! Pacers is one of my favourite teams and they needed a guy that can lead the second unit. Watson showed that he can bring creativity on offense in Chicago. We don’t have to watch DJ Agustine any more

To be fair, I think a half eaten ham sandwich would be a big upgrade over DJ Augustin.
