We know that the Philadelphia 76ers interviewed Spurs assistant Brett Brown for their coaching vacancy. Then during the draft a report came out of New York it was done —   Brown has been tagged to be the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, according to the New York Daily News.

Not so fast, says Sixers GM Sam Hinkie, speaking to CSNPhilly.com.

“Not true,” Hinkie said of the report of Brown joining the Sixers…

“There was nothing of that substance that happened tonight,” Hinkie said. “There were a lot of things going on and that was not something that happened in the past few hours.”

This doesn’t mean Brown will not get the Sixers job, just not yet.

Brown had interviewed for the Denver Nuggets job and was reportedly in line to talk to the Celtics about their new job opening.

Brown is a product of the Spurs system — which means he should be amenable to GM Sam Hinkie’s analytics approach — having been in their player development program before moving to their bench. He is considered the guy in line to be Popovich’s new lead assistant if he doesn’t land a head coaching job.

Brown was the coach of the Australian national team in the 2012 Olympics and has spent time coaching ball internationally.
