David Stern announces his final draft pick as commissioner (VIDEO)

Jun 28, 2013, 10:17 AM EDT

It was well played all around.

Of course the fans in Brooklyn welcomed David Stern to the podium with a chorus of boos to start the night — and over the course of the first round he played along and taunted them a little, saying he couldn’t hear them. But when it came time to make is final pick he got a respectful standing ovation from the crowd.

Then Stern introduced commissioner-in-waiting Adam Silver, and the crowd booed him.

Then Silver brought “The Dream” back out on the stage. Just well don all around.

Stern could be a turd at times…and him taunting the crowd got a little old. But…the NBA has become a global brand under his direction and is second to soccer as the world’s most popular sport. For that, I applaud him. Silver has his work cut out for him.

It’s interesting how making money is a sign of success sports. MLB is making tons of cash compared to yesteryear, and its virtually unwatchable. It still stinks like a dead fish from the steroid era–Ryan Braun, for example, should have a thousand game suspension by now. The NBA has gotten more high profile too, and the officiating is the worst of any professional sport in any country. Having just watched my Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup, hockey makes far less money than the NBA, NFL, or MLB, but it is also the least bogus out of any of them. These guys were playing their asses off, in some cases instead of recovering in hospitals for their injuries. Compare and contrast Boston’s Bergeron to Dwyane Wade whining endlessly about his knee injuries–it just becomes a case of real athletes vs. prima donnas.

I love The Notorious DJS! He’s by far the best commissioner in pro sports and has been a great peacekeeper between the players & owners. (We may have lost a couple partial seasons, but it could have been much worse.) And yes, Stern embracing the world with basketball has resulted in the world embracing basketball right back. Now we get most of the best players worldwide! NBA! NBA! NBA!

LOL! I was so amused by Stern’s final Larry O’Brien trophy presentation that I put the video on YouTube

Remember when Stern axed over 200 NBA employees in 2008 but didn’t cut a dime from his $15+million salary ? Guy is short man with a short man complex. I rather have a bright tall guy like Tim Duncan as Commish.
