Coach Rasheed Wallace? Detroit talking to him about assistant coach spot.

Brian Shaw yelled “ball don’t lie” at an official this year and he still got the job as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets.

So why not hire Rasheed Wallace as a coach?

The idea is at least being discussed in Detroit, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.

Maurice Cheeks was hired away from Oklahoma City to be the new head coach in Detroit and he is rounding out his staff.

‘Sheed is loved in Detroit, where he was a key cog in the 2004 championship team. While he marched to his own drummer, he was always popular with teammates.

Does that make him a good coach? Is he really committed to the long hours of the coaching lifestyle?

I don’t know. But if he is it would be fun to watch it happen with the Pistons.

Rasheed Wallace did an amazing job this year as a Knicks player-coach. He knows the game very well.

all jokes aside its 50/50 could be good could be very bad

    ball don’t lie

Beat me to it. This hire is pure money the first time Sheed gets picked up on mic saying ball don’t lie on a missed ft on a bs call.

Gonna have to change that to clipboard don’t lie

I can see him coaching….on how to brawl and how to get the most technicals

    • money2long - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:07 PM

      i see passion

He gets a big recommendation from Coach Brown.

  6. azarkhan - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:10 PM

He’s looking to set the record for most technical fouls by a coach.

  7. weaselpuppy - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:11 PM

Maybe Sheed can coach guys to NOT LEAVE HORRY!

If you want an ex-Piston big man Laimbeer coached 3 WNBA Championship teams in Detroit….

Sheed would be great to watch though. But Joe has to get a big improvement this year or he’s done. Pope is a nice get and they have $20M in cap space to get a SF (Granger?). Yah. Gotta start winning….

I would love that hire…there isn’t much to route for as a pistons fan these days

    • theripster30 - Jun 29, 2013 at 3:15 PM

      Route for?

  9. chicitybulls - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:14 PM

Assistant? Hell make him the head coach. I would buy the NBA package JUST to watch all of Detroit’s games for entertainment purposes. How funny would the press conferences be after he feels that Joey Crawford or Scott Foster hosed him out of a game?

Reporter: “Rasheed, why do you think Andre Drummond struggled in the second half getting rebounds and got into foul trouble?”
Sheed: “Hey, both teams played hard my man.”

he’ll lead the league in coaches with techs

  11. spursareold - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:35 PM

Knowledge of the game isn’t the only criteria for coaching. It takes hard work, somethin Sheed has always shied away from. With his talent level, he should have been a Hall of Famer, not some middling PF who could shoot well.

    • adoombray - Jun 28, 2013 at 6:10 PM

Let’s not pretend like coaching work is the same as player work. I “work hard” at my job running virus scans for my clients while posting on PBT and I do it 50+ hours a week but that doesn’t mean I hit the gym nearly as much as I ought to. or like. ever. whatever

  12. kevinferrigan - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:36 PM

Oh, man. Coach Sheed is amazing. So many BDLs, you guys.

  13. mtheparrothead - Jun 28, 2013 at 8:55 PM

Screw that. Fire joe and let his crazy arse run the front office. If you’re gonna suck you might as well suck with flare

Coach sheed? Here comes the ejections and technicals lol

  15. barnesaintnoble - Jun 29, 2013 at 2:28 AM

This is a Mo Cheeks move, it’s too good to be Joe Dumars related. I can’t wait until Dumars gets fired, he got lucky a DECADE ago and his been drafting like garbage. making excuses and firing coaches left and right since. Dave Bing is leaving his mayoral post….maybe he could replace him?
