Literally nobody saw this coming.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have selected UNLV’s Anthony Bennett with the number one pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, and it comes as a huge surprise.
Most mock drafts had Nerlens Noel at the top of the board in the weeks leading up to the draft, and Alex Len began to gain traction as Cleveland’s selection in recent days.
It’s definitely worth wondering if the Cavaliers made this pick for another team as part of an already agreed upon deal, but for now, the 6’7″ power forward lands in Cleveland.
Kurt Helin breaks down the Bennett pick for us below:
“Bennett is long and strong who is a beast in the paint. He has a big physical frame who has thrown down some of the best dunks of the college season (Kyrie Irving is going to love throwing the ball to him in transition). He’s shown flashes of an outside shot and handles, but can he do that consistently at the next level against better talent? There are also questions about his defense, but the Cavaliers must have liked the answers.”
