Kevin Durant makes jump to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation official

Jun 24, 2013, 4:21 PM EDT

We told you it was coming, but now Kevin Durant has made his jump to a third agent since he joined the NBA official — he has signed with Jay-Z’s new Roc Nation.

Fox Sports had it on twitter.

source:

Roc Sports is collaboration between Jay-Z and the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) — already one of the powerhouse agent groups already.

What Jay-Z brings to the mix is a name plus an understanding of how to brand and market players. Honestly, negotiating’s Durant’s next max contract is not the hard part, what he wants is promotion off the court. No doubt Rob Pelinka (who KD left but is also the agent for Kobe Bryant and others) understands marketing and getting his players endorsements and the rest, but Jay-Z brings a certain swagger to that.

Of course, what would really help Durant’s marketing status is a shiny ring on his finger.

Never punch anyone when you have money. They sue you and it becomes their money.

      Wow. Thanks for the tip:

TMZ broke the story … Pippen allegedly brutalized an autograph seeker outside Nobu restaurant Sunday night. The man was knocked out after Pippen allegedly punched him in the face and kicked him repeatedly.

Pippen left the scene. As for the victim … he was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, including broken teeth and a swollen mouth. He also suffered injuries to his head and back.

not sure what to think. okay, i get Jay-Z has a “brand” but is he going out of his realm here? I wonder if the agent fee is higher than the “normal” rate. regardless, getting KD is a huge win for the HOVA.

Camo pants, exactly what I look for in a guy handling all my business interests.

    • bluebagz - Jun 24, 2013 at 6:06 PM

Camo pants is worth $500 Million you clown. The guy is a marketing genius and will get deals done based off his name alone.

      • fanofevilempire - Jun 25, 2013 at 5:08 PM

when a man has 500 mil he can wear what he wants.

do you want me to throw out the 20 pairs of camo pants
I have so you will sleep better tonight.

Bernie Madoff had some nice suits and material things too, but
he stole other peoples money to pay for it.

    • kb2408 - Jun 24, 2013 at 6:23 PM

Jay Z is reportedly worth over 300 million bucks. Everything he touches turns to gold. He has proven he is a brilliant business man. What does the fact that he’s wearing camo shorts have to do with anything? There have been plenty of agents in $1,000 designer suits that were terrible at their profession.

    • azarkhan - Jun 24, 2013 at 7:22 PM

The key is “Roc Sports is collaboration between Jay-Z and the Creative Artists Agency (CAA)”. Jay-Z is lending his name to attract the black athlete, CAA (started 1975) has the history, contacts and resumé.

    • loungefly74 - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:50 AM

you have a point. in most business situations, coming to the table in a dapper outfit is preferred…but, this being Jay-Z, he has the leeway/image to do things a little different. he is an exception. i’m sure if he was brokering a merger between Exxon and JP Morgan Chase, he would be in more fitting attire. but this is basketball…i mean, look what KD is wearing, ya know?

      • fanofevilempire - Jun 25, 2013 at 5:10 PM

he was hanging with Kanye a few weeks back in a $2000.00 over coat, Jeans and Jordans.
when he was running a label he dressed like a Banker, $2000.00 suits.
why is this even a issue.

  7. azarkhan - Jun 24, 2013 at 5:28 PM

I always thought Sugar Ray Leonard went about it the smart way. He had a lawyer handling his business, not an agency. A lawyer gets paid by the hour, whereas an agency takes a percentage, which can range between “4 and 10% of the athlete’s playing contract, and 10 to 20% of the athlete’s endorsement contract”. That can add up when you’re talking millions of dollars.

    • senorpapino - Jun 24, 2013 at 9:19 PM

True but the agent should be able to get you marketing opportunities that you otherwise couldn’t get on your own. That’s one reason that guys like Dirk who never hired an agent get little exposure off the court and why it can actually make the athlete more money to hire one despite paying them so much money.

What do camp pants have to do with it? My guess is you’ve never been a part of business or an enterprise where you meet people and negotiate. Look we all get that today’s society says everything rich monopoloistic white guys did in the past two centuries is just that for old white guys and the new breed does things different but there should be some class and acumen when doing business no matter the era race class sex. A suit does well. Shows well fits well etc. yes this includes that Facebook honcho who can’t dress worth a damn either. I just don’t get it and I’m kind of a grunger era person. It’s being done different i get understand, hopefully one day I can catch up with the times. Nah ill wait it out.
