The Heat will hold their victory parade on the streets of Miami beginning at 11 a.m. ET on Monday, and among the heightened security measures in place will be the banning of backpacks by city officials.

Backpacks were used by those who set off the bombs at the Boston Marathon a couple of months back, so naturally, organizers of large events are going to do everything they can from a security standpoint to prevent something like that from happening in the future.

From the Associated Press:

Several major events have not allowed fans to carry backpacks or bags of a certain size after the Boston Marathon bombings earlier this year, including the Penn Relays and horse racing’s Triple Crown races. Earlier this month, the NFL said it would also not allow backpacks in its stadiums this coming season.

Additional tips for attending the parade can be found on the Miami-Dade county web site.

The parade route is almost two miles long, and will start at the corner of SW 8th Street and 2nd Avenue, head east on 8th Street then north on Brickell Avenue, across the bridge and north on Biscayne Boulevard, before ending at the American Airlines Arena. A map of the route can be seen below.

An estimated 400,000 people attended the Heat’s parade a season ago.
